what a terribly boring film. I'm sorry but this is absolutely not deserving of best picture and will be forgotten quickly. Entertaining and engaging cinema? No. Nothing performances with flat faces and mistaking silence for subtlety.

Gilligan's Island was a smash hit TV Show that was so stupidly funny, it took America by surprise and had us all at the edge of our seats with each weekly episode wondering what stupid antics Gilligan was going to do this week to totally screw up yet another attempt to get off the island -- wherever they were -- from that uncharted desert island somewhere in the South Pacific. It was always guaranteed to be stupid, yes, but hilariously funny. It was so funny that in one episode, they even had the world famous Wrong Way Corrigan come to their island, but just as we expected, even he couldn't helped them...because even he was lost...because he was going the wrong way. This show is delightfully funny comedy that is great for children (I was aged 9-12 years old when it aired) and filled with loads of laughter for the entire family. They don't make shows like this anymore! Pity!

OK they were shipwrecked on an "uncharted island" for years and the professor could make anything from a radio to a chemical cure from coconuts but couldn't fix the Minnow. After years on the island they always had clean new clothes. MaryAnn, Dawn Wells, is adorable and far more attractive then Ginger and there is much 'license' taken but it's good clean fun and to this day makes me LOL. No one could get a job on a tour boar as bumblimg as Gilligan, whom always messes up rescue situations but that is what I mean be 'license; to make the silly ...campy show what it was -- Is. Sherwood S then created Brady Bunch which was popular but hokey In my humble opinion

Paul Lynde once remarked on a Dean Martin celebrity roast that his tastes and Martin's were quite polarized. While Lynde enjoyed museums and the theatre, Martin's idea of intellectual discussion was analyzing the plots of "Gilligan's Island". This one remark pretty much sums up what has to be one of the most idiotic of long-running shows in the history of network television. The show begs for exaggerated derogatory epithets. Take your pick. Gilligan's Island is: 1. a few fries short of a Happy Meal. 2. a few clowns short of a kids show. 3. a few quarks short of a sub-atomic particle. 4. A few nuts short of an insane asylum. Get the idea?Certainly, I would not complain if I had been marooned on an island with the likes of Tina Louise and Dawn Welles (who played Ginger and Mary Ann) by myself. But once you add Gilligan into the mix, life on the island would make Romper Room seem like the Taj Mahal. Why none of the supporting cast ever tried to bump off Gilligan is one of the mysteries of the show. With Gilligan running the ship, I guess it's no surprise where they ended up. It is apparently the first narrative show to have an intro "story" at the beginning of each airing to establish the premise.Gilligan (played by Bob Denver) is such a dimwitted goof that he probably finds the likes of Mister Rogers and Saseme Street too intellectually challenging. And he must have some kind of sexual disorder because he treats the other young women on the island as if they're all classmates in the third grade. And, to add to the mix, he finds creative ways to avoid being rescued which is one of the many recurring "jokes" of the show. The wardrobe has to be another. Gilligan and the captain are always wearing their hideous-looking knit tops while the other characters have resplendent fashions. Was there a Neiman Marcus on the island? Or a women's department at Friday's Department Store? (Maybe Robinson Crusoe had a special women's line!) Or maybe Ginger and Mr and Mrs Howell received their clothes mail order.Other silly aspects of the show were the use of island resources to create all kinds of crazy inventions. One of the absolute stupidest is when Gilligan is turned into a radio. The professor, who is always the one to facilitate the invention, sounds like a community college textbook from the 1950's. I am sure he and the absent-minded professor would have gotten along fine. They also create a stage for night-time entertainment. It seems Ginger (Tina Louise) is always impersonating Marilyn Monroe. Certainly Louise is eye candy for the average male viewer, but like a bad adult movie, I wouldn't want the likes of Gilligan hanging around her, let alone showing up at all. In terms of the comedic interest, possibly the only standout of the show was Jim Bacchus as Mr Howel, but even he can't save the wonder that is Gilligan's Island from sinking into the oblivion of bad comedy. Gilligan's Island is essentially a bad Saturday Night Live sketch that lasted three seasons. They should have sank this show when they had the chance! But the one glaring flaw of the entire show which I alluded to earlier was Gilligan's sexual repression. He's the only young eligible male of the castaways and yet he seems about as interested in girls as your average kindergärtner. Simultaneously, because he is one cherry short of a fruitcake, it almost seems reprehensible that he would make a daring attempt at either Ginger or Mary Ann. But I guess it made sense as it would be the equivalent of Marilyn Monroe being seduced by a ground hog. Well, that may be an unfair comparison. I wouldn't want to offend any ground hogs! It becomes obvious why the ship was wrecked on the island in the first place.Apparently the networks came close to denying the initial airing of "Gilligan's Island" when they saw how bad it was and feared it would embarrass the network. However, the show was modestly successful which demonstrates how flawed the American taste can be when it comes to television. I don't know who is more of an idiot: Gilligan or the people who watched him. These episodes are time in your life you'll never get back. And look at me. I just wasted a good half hour on him when I could have been doing something useful and enjoyable, like having a root canal.

This was one of my favorite shows as a kid and I always wanted to go out with dawn wells. However the comment I have a problem with is about the Japanese soldier who did not know the war was over, Lt Onada surrendered in 1974 with his rifle, sword and ammunition. So of all their improbable happenings that one was at least possible.I think the Minnow would make a great tour boat with a few restrictions, as to passenger manifests.I would sale any where with the skipper, but I would personally throw Gilligan over the side, at the first opportunity.THis was a funny show and I really so hate being told I am not wordy enough
