Well Deserved Praise
Self-important, over-dramatic, uninspired.
I like movies that are aware of what they are selling... without [any] greater aspirations than to make people laugh and that's it.
View MoreOne of the film's great tricks is that, for a time, you think it will go down a rabbit hole of unrealistic glorification.
View MoreI remember watching this show when it first aired. It was refreshing, creative, and a little risqué. I believe it was during one of the network strikes and was done as a filler. The use of the ludicrous and non-PC physical humor was great. The opening scene of the Sherpas finding the frozen explorer and debating whether to retrieve him set the tone for the whole first episode...who knew Sherpas could be funny! The blind gentleman destroying everything he touched was a return to more of the physical comedy of an earlier era.Presently trying to track down which network aired it and if it will be on DVD sometime in the future. Definitely doesn't deserve to sit on a warehouse shelf unwatched. Four stars!
View MoreBeing a Teri Garr fan, I was excited to hear of a show starring her. When I saw the first episode, I was immediately hooked. The humor is wacky, hilarious, and executed perfectly by the whole cast. If you liked "Soap," you will like this show as well. I'm pretty sure it was produced by the same people. It's sad that shows of this caliber are not kept by the networks. I don't know if it has ever been shown on any of the cable or satellite channels, but if it ever is, be sure to catch it. I guarantee you will get several good laughs. Only six episodes were ever aired. I don't know if more were made or not. I was able to get 5 of the 6 when they originally were shown, and every few years I pull the tape out and watch it again. Great stuff!
View MoreAnother one of the good shows that didn't make it.GOOD & EVIL was a hillarious spoof-show of soap-operas and was basically about a good sister, a scientist, and her evil sister, a femme fatale-wannabe, fighting each other. The good sister has a scientist friend, who has a crush on her, who happens to be blind (and keeps knocking stuff over) and a daughter who doesn't want to talk. And to make thing sillier the evil sister has an ex-husband (played by South African "gods must be crazy" actor Marius Weyers) chasing her whom she pushed off Mount Everest and has been frozen for two years in the Himalayas.Meanwhile their mother is having a new lover over who is obviously after her money and somewhere their mother's evil twin comes in. Fun if you can catch it somewhere...
View MoreThis series only ran for about six episodes if I remember correctly, but it was too far ahead of its time to be popular in 1991. Irreverent, zany, madcap, and hilarious, I imagined this series would last a lot longer than it did.Teri Garr did an excellent job as the star, and Lane Davies (having recently been one of the popular members of the Days of Our Lives cast before starring in G&E) did a great job as well. With a talented supporting cast, this series should've had a much bigger following.Lane Davies played a doctor experimenting with different potions, sometimes having a Jekyll & Hyde effect on him, and Teri Garr played the perfect love interest. If you ever have the opportunity to watch this show, it deserves a second look.
