What a waste of my time!!!
Good idea lost in the noise
an ambitious but ultimately ineffective debut endeavor.
View MoreIt’s fine. It's literally the definition of a fine movie. You’ve seen it before, you know every beat and outcome before the characters even do. Only question is how much escapism you’re looking for.
View MoreThis is the first review I have ever done on IMDB so I signed up specifically for this one.I will start by saying that I love tattoos and have watched every episode of every season of Ink Master, including Ink Master Angels and without a doubt this is the worst of the bunch. I am not sure why I kept watching after the first episode, it may be that I secretly enjoy being enraged by awful and cringeworthy television or a simple obsession with completion. But I would go as far as to say this rivals 'best ink' for the worst tattoo competition on TV.They made a nice effort to make this show seem a bit slicker than it really is with the opening credit sequence. But honestly it brings the saying about ones ability to polish a turd to mind. Personally I feel this season has had the worst talent by far but that is not the reason I am writing this review. My main objection is the cookie-cutter approach to fake scripted drama and character types. The 'spontaneous' banter between provocative competitors is absolutely cringeworthy. And the rapid turnabout face of seemingly seething competitors after being informed they are needed for the prestigious position of judging really highlights how fake it is. The angels themselves are talented artists, some more than others but their ability to act and carry a tv show really stinks. It is this lack of acting chops that exposes the template style dialogue between rounds and during the judging segments. Throughout all seasons of Ink Master there is obviously scripted or manufactured conflict as well as over the top characters voicing extreme outrage. But that is just the nature of reality TV in general. But in this series I think they tried to crank it up a little too far.For me Ink Mater Angels is really awful and the calibre of most of the artists leaves me less than excited about the potential for the next series. Personally I thought some of the eliminated artists were far better than those who 'won'. Also the most basic search on Instagram will find artists from all over the world that could easily win any series of Ink Master so I hope that the producers make more of an effort to include high calibre artists in the upcoming series. However I believe that because this is cheap reality TV (cheap to make) that high calibre artists are unwilling to forego their earning potential for the time required to be on the show. One thing I have found myself openly mocking since the first time I saw it is the Kelly Doty 'Stop Tattooing head shake'. I think Kelly Doty is an amazing artist and seems like a really cool person, but that attempt at a catchphrase is really silly. The pro-female agenda of this show is forced down the viewers throats a lot during the series too but that is far from the worst thing about this show. There are many amazing female artists around the world so for me the whole premise of the show seems a little redundant. It makes me question whether the show would even exist if Ryan wasn't a model wearing skimpy dresses with her boobs nearly popping out in every episode (not that there's anything wrong with that).
View Morethree losers and one former winner of inkmaster get to hand pick their competition and then get the final say so on who beats them.would be much better if the competition were fair.have watched several episodes where they CLEARLY chose the worst artist to advance.
View MoreTake all the worst parts of recent Ink Master seasons and add in a metric ton of sexism and you've got the "Angels" series.Ink Master has declined in recent years but rather than fix the issues the producers have just added MORE of the same problems. The biased judging (it should be blind), the fake drama, the scripted altercations, the sexist alliance, the inconsistent adherence to the judging criteria, the predetermined outcome (HAD to have a female winner, regardless of who deserved it more), Dave Navarro (I still can't believe someone thought viewers would enjoy seeing Dave hanging from hooks!), etc. etc etc. Nunez comes across as a pompous ass. Dave Navarro isn't a tattoo artist (or even a visual artist) and is a terrible judge. Peck is the only reasonably decent judge. The producers need to switch to blind judging, with a predefined criteria that is strictly adhered to. I'd even suggest a number scoring system where every tattoo is given number (1-10?) for the different aspects (i.e. application, design, line work, consistency, shading, color/grayscale, placement/fit to body, and 30 points for overall appearance) and then the winner is the person with the highest score and the lowest score goes home (regardless of past tattoos). Give the judges each 1 save per season to prevent someone's off day from sending them home (or just 1 save total?). The season finale tattoos would be scored the same way and would account for 50% with the report card counting for the other 50% of the determination of the season winner. At no time should a non-artist have a part in judging. No Navarro votes, no public votes (which is just a popularity contest), etc. Artists should be the ones determining the winner based solely on the artwork contestants complete. If producers want to fix the judging, they should have 10 respected artists blindly judge all the completed tattoos. Utilize Navarro, Nunez, and Peck and mentors and hosts, but not as judges.Anyway, back to Angels... Last season of Ink Master (with all the angels) was horrid. I didn't think it was possible but this show is actually even worse. Luckily, the first season of Angels will also be the last (there's zero chance this pile of stinking poo gets renewed).
View MoreThis new spin off, from the original ink master, is a refreshing change from the sometimes overplayed "reality TV" segments of the original show. The 4 girls that are "the Angels", are going from city to city, where local artists face off against each other, then the winner chooses which of the 4 girls they want to face in the final showdown, which is judged by, the 2 local competitors already beaten, the other 3 angels, and the locals from that city, who spectate the last 6 hour tattoo being done. I happen to like Dave Navaro, but the girls aren't quite as stiff, and after watching ever season, in my opinion, at least 3 of these girls produced some of the most amazing skin art I have ever seen. If the local contestant beats the angel, they secure themselves a spot on Ink Master season 10. It is early days yet, but it has a lot more promise than the "redemption" series. IF YOU LIKE INK MASTER, then I really think this is worth a look!!
