I gave this film a 9 out of 10, because it was exactly what I expected it to be.

The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.

I didn't love it. It felt slow and repetitive of themes. I loved the actors, Ian McShane is brilliant as always. Sebastian Stan plays a perfect in the closet gay man in his typical bad boy, brooding, damaged character. I didn't even make it to the last episode because it was too slow moving for me. I felt like the family dynamic was predictable and I could tell the relationships were not going to go well from the first couple episodes. I am not gonna lie, I watched this soley for Sebastian Stan. He could be taped eating cake and I would most likely watch it. Hes a great actor, but he got stuck being type casted into these particular roles.

I was very disappointed this series was cancelled. As one reviewer said this series may have worked better on HBO or Starz. Personally I feel it was overly intellectual for the average person so people just thought it was not interesting, when in reality it was very well done. The acting was very good and I found every episode to be intriguing and mind bending. The production, style and techniques used were superb. But most viewers do not like to think this much and so it failed. It was easily one of the top 20 series, in my opinion, I have seen on TV in my 45 years of viewing. It is a shame that every time I find a gem like this it only lasts one or two years, and I am a viewer of everything from Rich Man Poor Man, Twin Peaks, Family Guy, I Love Raymond to The Walking Dead.

I was so upset to discover that this show was being canceled- the themes are so elevated and the cinematography genius- I really don't know what to say about the cancellation- other than I am completely and utterly disappointed- has the viewing of TV become about silly jokes and stereotypical dialogue? Must there be some magical formula to determine the success of a show? Because here is a show that does not conform- that allows us to think @ a higher level- examines old dead themes in a fresh young way- that inspires others at work and in life- has a cast that any show would dream for and writers that speak not above us but to us- I ask you- how is this canceled? To the cast and crew- thank you so much- I have enjoyed you and have looked forward to your episodes- I am sorry for your cancellation- I am a fan- I support you and your work

Kings enjoys strong performances, excellent production values, and compelling storytelling. I found "Judgment Day" particularly entertaining, much for Ian McShane's lead. And McShane's line in the first episode, "Half my kingdom it is," sealed my interest in the series. The sub-plot about the king's gay son is also good, albeit brushed under the carpet in some of the later episodes. Now, pundits claim that the show is apparently very expensive to produce, and as such, begs for cancellation before it can build up enough audience to justify its cost. But the show's real flaw is the burden of its own deity worship. Now, that God is part of the construct is only to be expected, in that "Kings" is a retelling of the biblical story of King David -- and that's not a problem. Rather, it's that the show's producers and writers seem so compelled to make the series rely so heavily on the faith of its characters, that the stories are crushed under their own weight. In Episode 7, "The Sabbath Queen," for instance (spoiler follows), the princess tells David that she can't be with him because of a promise she made to God. It's a silly, heavy-handed premise that's implausible --- even in a fictional universe where modern-day USA is a monarchy -- because her character has been written as an activist and a rule-breaker.The exact same thing happened to the recently-canceled "Eli Stone." It started with a lighthearted, somewhat fantastical setting, and then became bogged down by religious dogma and heavy-handed arguments about faith.Essentially, "Kings" could've been great, had its makers not sucked all the fun out of it.
