Admirable film.
A film with more than the usual spoiler issues. Talking about it in any detail feels akin to handing you a gift-wrapped present and saying, "I hope you like it -- It's a thriller about a diabolical secret experiment."
View MoreIn truth, any opportunity to see the film on the big screen is welcome.
View MoreIt's funny, it's tense, it features two great performances from two actors and the director expertly creates a web of odd tension where you actually don't know what is happening for the majority of the run time.
View MoreI would have given this a 10 but I think the fact that Gus came completely clean and Mickey still had her little secret was kind of a mess and it's a shame every other word had to be a curse word especially from children actors. The story is great and it is relatable in so many ways. You see a lot of the ups and down of relationships and the characters are likeable. I say it's well worth watching!
View MoreIf you're okay with the premise that a gorgeous Twelve Stepper like Mickey could stick it out for thirty-odd episodes with a geeky pop-culture vulture like Gus, then it's pretty much all good, especially the third season. There've been plenty of recent shows about aspiring entertainers and entry-level culture workers (Mrs. Maisel, Mr. Roosevelt, Master of None...) but Love also has plenty to say about high-risk relationships, coping with self-destructive patterns and putting away childish things, most of it relatable for anyone who's had a normally chaotic young adulthood, some of it even kind of profound. OTOH, some of Mickey's Amy Schumer-style antics in the first season as well as the couple's continuing tiffs and squabbles may seem a bit contrived at times, but for the most part the writing's sharp and original. The workplace-comedy stuff--he's an on-set tutor for a struggling TV series, she's a talk-radio producer--and the occasional glimpses of the underparts of the LA entertainment complex (the radio shrink's book-signing debacle, the Horror House bus tour, the Van Nuys amateur wrestling scene) seem especially well observed, and the supporting cast is excellent. Special mention to Claudia Doherty as Bertie, Mickey's bemused Aussie roommate, and Iris Apatow as Arya, Gus's spoiled child-star tutee.
View MoreI have to say I really did enjoy most of this series..it was a really well done series that had me laughing in parts, but deeply annoyed and frustrated in others. I did feel like the way they wrapped it up by Season 3 end was a bit rushed and forced.Bottom line is this is a human relationship that is generally explained from a very post modern, feminist influenced agenda.. That does not mean its not entertaining for me, it just means for me personally I seen many scenes i really could care less for. The role of Mickey was awesome in the beginning, found her interesting, but by end of season 2 just the sound of her voice was enough to make me want to fast forward. Her character gets MANY passes in this one..many.. and they truthfully never even get solved,.. just excuses.. The male lead for a "modern effeminate" male gets more "action" than the very best of the "masculine driven shows"...again I can not help but think this was intentional... as if it were his "pay off"... In all I found the attitude towards men to be rather demeaning.. The big "hefty" guy who is portrayed as big dumb slow and lazy gets absolutely steam rolled emotionally by the end and there's not even a real concern of it from a writers perspective whom seem to take how "people feel" into extreme consideration the rest the go...Overall many characters and the actors who played them did well..it was really entertaining whenever they were not paying the character of Mickey much mind.I would LOVE to see a next version of the show , perhaps where the guy finally gets his balls back , gets rid of Mickey and he and all the other characters can live a life "surviving Mickey"... Because that's where the story truly was good.Side Note: Keep an eye out for Iris Aptow in the future... she is a REAL star in the making.. loads of talent along with absolutely stunning beauty for a girl her age.
