If the ambition is to provide two hours of instantly forgettable, popcorn-munching escapism, it succeeds.

The plot isn't so bad, but the pace of storytelling is too slow which makes people bored. Certain moments are so obvious and unnecessary for the main plot. I would've fast-forwarded those moments if it was an online streaming. The ending looks like implying a sequel, not sure if this movie will get one

It is neither dumb nor smart enough to be fun, and spends way too much time with its boring human characters.

I think this is a new genre that they're all sort of working their way through it and haven't got all the kinks worked out yet but it's a genre that works for me.

When you read more than 1/2 dozen reviews of an obscure TV series, and they are all positive, it kind of makes you take notice. And notice should be taken of this little gem. It stacks up respectfully with Nick and Nora, Mr & Mrs North and just about any amateur sleuth~husband/wife teaming. It does raise 2 questions - why are they so much better at making quality, entertaining television series in Australia, New Zealand and the UK then we are in the states? The other question - why do the shows in Australia stop before their time? Mr & Mrs Murder ran 13 episodes. Unlike American series, each episode stands alone, and can be enjoyed (no recurring bad guy or sinister underlying subplot ie Red John from the mentalist or Jack from The Profiler). But then it just went away - no 2nd season (series). can't figure that one out. More confusing was the end of the Dr Blake Mysteries. Ratings were great, fan base was strong - but they cancelled (or didn't renew) it at the top of it's form. My recommendation; track down Mr & Mrs Murder but don't binge watch it, take it one episode at a time. Just about the perfect blend of mystery and comedy.

It appears the Austrailians are every bit as good at crafting entertaining mysteries as their as their English cousins. A case in point is "Mr & Mrs Murder", a light-hearted Austrailian cozy mystery originally aired in 2013. Shaun Micallef plays Charlie Buchanan and Kat Stewart plays his wife Nicola. Together they operate a crime scene cleaning service, making them ideally suited for finding evidence and clues overlooked by the police. Micallef and Stewart imbue their characters with enough quirks and foibles that makes them entertaining and just slightly over-the-top. My wife and I have viewed this series many times and find something new and enjoyable with each viewing. Highly recommended!

I generally dislike most Australian television series, however, some excellent hidden gems occasionally appear, as Mr and Mrs Murder has shown. Shaun Micallef has never been one of my favourite TV personalities, so it was a pleasant surprise when I tuned in to find him playing an interesting, funny and unique role as crime scene cleaner, Charlie Buchanan. He brings something special to the role, as does Kat Stewart as his on-screen wife, Nicola, an equally quirky and funny character. Additionally, Lucy Honigman plays their frequently long-suffering niece, Jess, who is roped in to help them solve their cases and be an unwilling participant in garage crime scene re-enactments. Jonny Pasvolsky also plays a great role as police detective, Peter Vinetti, his dead-pan and occasionally confused character adding value as a foil for Micallef and Stewart's characters. There are twists and turns in every episode, leaving the viewer completely baffled on occasion as to the culprit, and the scriptwriters have used exceptional humour throughout. Some of the one-liners left me laughing to the point of crying. I definitely give this show a thumbs-up.

Mr and Mrs murder is a married couple and their daughter who are crime scene cleaners turned detectives! Shaun is well cast as the Sherlock type who can analyze a situation and pick up on obscure clues to determine the truth. Some of the facts that he comes up with are ridiculous like a left handed dog! He works out that a dog is a killer because it wasn't the same dog who shook with a different paw! Ridiculous! The wife is a paranoid woman with a dog phobia but she is also a sleuth and picks up on clues as well. I usually can't stand Aussie shows but this one is OK! Not great, but OK! The quality of production is poor especially when they walk around their house. It has wooden floor boards which are extraordinarily loud when anyone walks around! The show is basic and mildly entertaining but Shaun makes it watchable, if it wasn't for him it would be unbearable because so far the story line is simplistic and not thought out!
