It is an exhilarating, distressing, funny and profound film, with one of the more memorable film scores in years,
View MoreIf you're interested in the topic at hand, you should just watch it and judge yourself because the reviews have gone very biased by people that didn't even watch it and just hate (or love) the creator. I liked it, it was well written, narrated, and directed and it was about a topic that interests me.
View MoreGreat example of an old-fashioned, pure-at-heart escapist event movie that doesn't pretend to be anything that it's not and has boat loads of fun being its own ludicrous self.
View MoreThis is one of the first animes I had ever watched- I do not regret it!**SPOILERS FROM HERE ON OUT**It is about how Haruhi Fujioka, a "Commoner" in the eyes of the school, has to pay off an 8,000,000 Yen debt to a host club, including an idiot "king" called Tamaki Suoh, who's quirky attitude masks his sad past, Hikaru and Kaoru Hitachiin (My favourite characters), using their bond as twins to perform what's commonly known as "Twincest" (best part of the anime xD), Minskuni Haninozuka (Honey) and Takashi Morinozuka (Mori), who's family's are experts in martial arts, and Kyoya Ootori, who's knowledge and funding skills hold the host club together. She must play the role of a male, due to her boyish appearance and attitude fooling the Host Club for a short time into believing she is of the opposite gender. Later in the series, she is the subject of a love triangle. This, however, is resolved in the finale. Speaking of the finale, any TamaHaru shippers may flip tables in rage, but i'll leave you to find out why. With it's characters comes an incredible cast- I've seen both Dub and Sub and honestly prefer the Dub! FUNimation studios have an incredible range of VA's and they play their characters well.I recommend this anime 100%, however, I do not give it a perfect score... Because there is no season 2. Other then that, I would love for any anime watchers, new or old, male or female, young child or old adult, to watch this anime- It will be a decision they will never regret!
View MoreAfter hearing about this anime through the internet and countless lists on great anime to binge watch, I was negated to watch this through it appearing to be aimed at girls and it seemed to be a sharp contrast from the common dark stories that usually make anime an intense experience. But after succumbing to illness and being bedridden for a few days I decided to have a look at the first episode. Oh boy, was I surprised. I can only compare it to the likes of Wes Anderson if he were to make an anime; the overflow of colour and lights, hilarious and sometimes black comedy, complete with excellently developed characters with unusual idiosyncrasies.Although its main narrative isn't anything groundbreaking or original, it's definitely portrayed differently and it's the perfect idea to be exaggerated in the world of anime. The characters are wonderful oddities and aren't afraid to be different or to explore taboo subjects. To the unknowing viewer, some of the topics shown might be considered 'over the line' but talking from the experience of watching this, it's better to embrace the weirdness of this show as it has a lot to offer in its run of 26 episodes. The show isn't driven by a hard hitting story and doesn't aim for tear-jerking moments, excessive gore or fantastical sci-fi; it uses it's simplicity to its advantage by focusing on all of the main characters and their contrasts with each other, also introducing a few hints of satire towards social class in there.Overall, I advise anyone - even if you're a guy trying to preserve your masculinity - to give this show a watch. It's outrageous and funny and the material doesn't get old, especially with the use of frequent fourth-wall breaks and genuinely sweet interludes. I was extremely surprised by this and I'll be sure to re-watch it soon.
View MoreI started watching this anime after I finished the final (and sudden) season of School Rumble. This anime is a mix of comedy and romance, but it centers around comedy and drama as the show progresses. This follows the life of Haruhi, who forcefully joins the Ouran Host Club after breaking an expensive vase. She must pay off her debt by getting 1,000 recommendations as a host. She has to disguise herself as a man because it's a rule that women can't be part of the host club. This show is full of clichés, but luckily doesn't take itself seriously. The Host Club is composed of of characters taking part in different personalities. You have the king of the host club, a handsome, smooth boy who can also be perverted and clingy to Haruhi. You have the twins who use their 'closeness' to their advantage. Honey is a young man acts like a 8 boy with a protective towering companion with a secret that you'll eventually learn. There's several other supporting characters, some funny, some more romantic. All in all, this show goes places anime shows haven't touched before. Homosexuality, transsexualality, rape, sex, and more, without going too inappropriate. This is a hilarious show that comedy and romantic lovers should check out.
View MoreThis is by far one of the most enjoyable animes i've seen in a long time. Following the popular idea of a girl having to pretend to be a guy at school, the show follows Haruhi, a 'commoner' at an elite school for the rich and powerful. After breaking an expensive vase, she must pay off the debt by working as a host in a club created to entertain girls. However, to do this, she must keep up the pretence that she is a guy. The plot lines are hilarious, with moments of sadness or sweetness thrown in. There are a few taboo-ish themes, like homosexuality, incest and rape, but they are dealt with in a non-confrontational manner, so it is unlikely a conservative viewer would be particularly offended by anything.Particularly of note are the characters and their development throughout the series as we learn more about them. In the club is the 'Lord', Tamaki, a perceptive, empathetic leader who often comes across as a bit of an idiot (but there is more to him than meets the eye); Hikaru and Kaoru, the mischievous, incestuous twins who use their closeness to appeal to girls; Kyoya, the money-minded, enigmatic shadow-lord; Hunny, the loli-shota obsessed with sweets, and his loyal friend Mori, a silent, stoic type. Haruhi herself is bookish and immune to the charms of the guys, yet becomes entangled in a (very light) love-triangle, which is vaguely resolved by the end of the series. It's easy to relate to and fall in love with all of the characters, and OHSHC is one of the rare shows where you find yourself caring about every character, not just a few.I would recommend OHSHC to anyone above the age of 13. It seems like a show aimed more at girls, but I gave it to my brother to watch and he loved it. I haven't read the manga (yet), so I can't compare; also, I hear that there will soon be an American-dub version released. As American dubs are notorious for their censorship, i have no idea how that might change the show (probably for the worse), so i'd recommend going and watching the original Japanese version with subtitles: the voice acting is pitch-perfect!
