Quarry Audience Reviews

SpuffyWeb Sadly Over-hyped
Libramedi Intense, gripping, stylish and poignant
CrawlerChunky In truth, there is barely enough story here to make a film.
Clarissa Mora The tone of this movie is interesting -- the stakes are both dramatic and high, but it's balanced with a lot of fun, tongue and cheek dialogue.
lucluv This is another of Hollywood's misguided "re-imaginings" of a classic story. This show has very little to do with the novels. Sure, they kept Joni, as his cheating wife, his sometime partner, Boyd, re-named "Buddy", and The Broker, as his middleman in the hit for hire business, but the rest of the people (for the most part) never appeared in any of the novels. They even start off on the wrong foot by giving Quarry a real life name, as opposed to the novels where he is never known by anything but "Quarry", unless he's using an undercover alias. While each novel concentrates on the psychology and drama of a single hit, the TV show became mired in a morass of melodrama and mass shootouts. It adds a different Vietnam backstory that never existed in the novels.Hollywood should stop taking classic stories and thinking "I can do it better!" As in most cases, and this case in particular, they can't. I'm not surprised the show got canceled. If you want the true "Quarry" read the books.
jrose-57191 How DARE they!! This is the most exciting show on cinamax. The LEAST best they have is "skinamax" geesh. This show is AMAZING! Get a grip and gain some girth! I thought it was worth to keep paying for this movie channel but apparently not. The show is awesome. If the producers, directors and actors stop fighting the story was NEVER worth it. However, I give my most honorable plaud and salute to the writer. Outstanding job and two middle fingers to Hollywood politics.
A_Different_Drummer Properties distributed through Cinemax are a lot like properties that come to us through the Marvel factory .. an interesting but uneven hodge-podge of good ideas cast with fresh new faces for fresh new audiences.Quarry (the derivation of the title is nicely explained in the opener) takes us on a sharp left turn from earlier Cinemax entries, such as Strike Back and of course the incredible Banshee (possibly the best new TV show in a decade). So they once again they wisely did not try to compete with what came before, and instead went into an entirely direction.Quarry at its essence is about a Vietnam vet who has trouble adjusting. It is that simple.Unlike Strike Back, which gave you a new Mission Impossible each week, and Banshee which gave you an Adrenalin rush each week even with the most simple stories, Quarry comes across as a 1940s Filme Noire shot in muted color tones and starring an actor who could have been Burt Reynold's understudy in the same period when Reynolds was King.it takes a slightly greater investment of your time to get into the slower-paced, cinema-style exposition. But the investment will pay off. Guaranteed.
freezermeat Easily the best show on TV with the exception of Game Of Thrones. The acting and story line is superb. I fear with the lack of media coverage that this show might be lost to the rating war, which would be an absolute shame for such a mesmerizing drama. This is a true gem and needs to be brought back. I know if I hadn't watched it form the time that it aired I would have binge watched in a day...it is that good. Please people don't pass this one up, you will not be disappointed. Cable TV has ruined me for network TV with shows such as GOT, Ray Donovan and Shameless to name a few "Quarry" is now at the top of the list and deserving of being renewed for years to come.
