If you're interested in the topic at hand, you should just watch it and judge yourself because the reviews have gone very biased by people that didn't even watch it and just hate (or love) the creator. I liked it, it was well written, narrated, and directed and it was about a topic that interests me.

It really made me laugh, but for some moments I was tearing up because I could relate so much.

okay, where to start. I haven't watched the original European series but I believe it received rave reviews. The story here is not that original. USA v Mexican drug cartels add in a serial killer. If you enjoyed the films Traffic, Escobar and Sicario this may be right up your alley. It starts with a murder on the border of USA and Mexico on the bridge between Texas-Chihuahua border. From there the series takes us on a roller coaster road of drug trafficking, drug cartels, murders, lots of murders, human trafficking and kidnapping and corruption. What I liked the most about this series is the in depth character details. The lead detective on the US side is annoying and frustrating, but she is meant to be and it works as she is teamed with a totally opposite raspy detective from the Mexican side. Together they form a formidable yet shaky team with each having their own agendas and different ways of operating. Its a likable series and keeps you switched on even though it does drop of here and there but in the end you wont be disappointed.

First of all it's not possible for me to compare this series to its original Danish version because I didn't see it. Most of the time the original versions are better but honestly for this one I don't really care because this show is good enough for me to be well entertained. And I am sure that the Danish/Swedish conflict could not be compared to the American/Mexican conflict. And that's just the point that makes this series highly enjoyable. The whole connection that two different detectives from different countries have is a delight to watch. Diane Kruger (as detective Sonya Cross) puts down a good performance playing her character with Asperger Syndrome. Demian Bichir (as detective Marco Ruiz) is perfect in his role, trying to keep his integrity as much as possible in an environment where corruption rules. The plot has enough twists to keep you intrigued. A good show for those who like crimes and mysteries.

How can you make anything out of something you don't understand? Someone said that "U.S. viewers would not know what to make of seeing Sweden/Denmark cultural clashes" so The Bridge was americanized. Must we, little people from Europe, know all about cultural clashes happening in the Great State to be able to watch any of many Great State productions? Do we really know, and you don't? There is a life beyond U.S. and you should at least try to learn about it. And at the end, you can't take what you claim you don't understand, and make something out of it. But you can always make new CSI. Let's say Dallas. And read subtitles.

There is a lot to like about The Bridge, which explores the problems for law enforcement on both sides of the U.S.-Mexico border near Juarez. The facts of life in Juarez are chilling. In 2011, there was a murder every 4 or five hours, round the clock every day of the week. Almost all murders were unsolved. The violence of the drug cartels and the corruption of public officials would be hard to exaggerate. The Bridge understates the violence and suggests corruption while providing a good Mexican detective who does not take bribes and is a good partner for the American cop. The TV pilot begins with a heavy-handed murder. A woman is found dead on the border, but it turns out she is two halves of two different women. Half of a body is in Mexico, and another half is in the United States. The viewer can compare and contrast the law enforcement styles of the two countries. Mexican law enforcement is overtly corrupt. Diane Kruger plays an extremely dysfunctional American detective. She has a complete inability to behave or react in a human way. It is a stretch to believe that she would be able to handle the responsibility of being a detective. It has been said that she depicts a person with Asperger's Syndrome. She is surrounded by a wonderful cast, and her performance might be less difficult to assimilate if she were more of a background character. I have seen a few episodes, and I plan to watch them all. There are already many moving parts and lots to look forward to. It's good TV.
