The Burning Zone started out with a good idea and for the first 4 or 5, maybe 7 episodes, it actually did that idea justice and seemed to have something going. Then it seemed to wander around without managing to sustain enough of the ongoing subplots and background that can hold an audience. There was obviously plenty of material around but they didn't seem to have enough good episodes actually written when they started producing it. That is just bad planning.Interference from network executives contributed heavily to the show losing its way and being canned. Once they changed the cast, there was absolutely NO way to rescue it. It's too bad, with better planning they could have squeezed two or three seasons out of it and then resolved the subplots in a climatic conclusion. It could have been a gem.

A sure ratings looser for UPN, the Burning Zone was their freshman season solution to Fox's X-Files. Throw in a pinch of the controversial movie Outbreak and what you got was a "Disease of the Week" series with semi-paranormal overtones and alot of borish dialog in between. The story centers on a team of virologists, assembled by a typical (shadowy benefactor) for the purpose of rising to the challenge of biological catastrophies. They tried to mix in a "conspiracy" element (a further stab at X-Files) by dropping hints to a evil agency called "The Dawn" that were to prove responsible for a great number of the cases they had to solve, but it totally went nowhere. Fortunately the series didn't survive, but unfortunately the damage was already done. The Burning Zone lived on for a while on SciFi Channel until they decided it had outlived its usefullness and they eradicated it from their schedule. Simply not worth looking for unless you are a fan of any of the actors involved and you must see every speck of their work.

Now, in my heart and memory, Edward Marcase and Kimberly Shiroma, which 2 virologists that only appear in the first 13 episodes and only in the first season, is really handsome and pretty...cute. They are the reason why I still like Burning Zone. In the episode that Edward fly a plane, I could not stop crying as more and more people were killed by the blood fever. In episode 7, Daniel got incurible Maya Virus, Edward and Kimberly help him, they have only 38 hrs to rescue Daniel..But In "X-Files", sorry to offend "X-Files"fans, always "Fox William Mulder" (David Duchovny) and "Dana Katherine Scully"(Gillian Anderson). I think that it need more fresh faces. always "Cigarette-smoking man","deep throat" and the same boss of Fox and Dana. I'm going to sleep if the X-files kept having Fox and Dana.Burning Zone is much more fresh and much more interesting. I wish 2 ask you, except BZ, which TV show is virus? BZ wins by its New topic..X-files? Already have copies: "Dark Skies", "Millenium","Freaky Links","Frighteners","aliens"...Burning Zone has no copies...hehe...it worths to win "X-Files".

And not just Outbreak. The Burning Zone had its share of quasi-supernatural phenomena as well. A series about a dedicated group who seem to be some special unit of the CDC, it was also a clear attempt to cash in on the enormous and cultish popularity of the X-Files. By mixing a little more science with a lot less conspiracy and things that go bump in the night, the show was interesting but not as enthralling as some of its peers. Still, I tried not to miss it when it was one - catch it on a rerun if you can, and if you like The X-Files, the movie Outbreak or CSI, this might be for you.
