The movie's neither hopeful in contrived ways, nor hopeless in different contrived ways. Somehow it manages to be wonderful

This show needs to be back on the air. I loved the show when it was on the air and still enjoy watching it on Netflix. There is not a whole lot original about the premise or idea, it's a classic buddy cop show. Bradley Whitford and Colin Hanks and the rest of the cast for that matter are incredible. The writing is excellent, the acting is excellent. Again while the idea behind the show is not original but this T.V. show is far from unoriginal. It's fresh and funny and actually tasteful. There is some adult humor but it is done tastefully. If that doesn't make sense to you watch the show. My seven year old son LOVES this show. We have watched the entire season several times and still when I ask him what he wants to watch he wants to watch The Good Guys. So a 35 year old man in Salt Lake and a seven year old little boy in Salt Lake who have watched the entire season no less than seven times still enjoy watching this show. Why is this show not on the air!?!? That is a huge demographic 7 to 35 almost 36. Fox get this show back on the air with the same cast and writers. Dan, Jack, Julius, Liz and Lt. Ruiz all need to be back on the air for my son myself and the rest of the Country to enjoy. If Fox won't bring it back then Amazon or Netflix need to step up.

I started watching this after seeing how it was rated on IMDb and loved it, not serious at all and well put together generally.I was watching re-runs of the A team and saw quite a few similarities in this show, The light humour, action (who does't like cars tearing round corners with their rears out?), good lines ("love it when a plan comes together"/ "let's bust some punks"), good cast, easy open and close story for each episode which means no long running epic that seems to be the norm on TV now. Not that I have a problem with long deep story lines but it's nice to have a light hearted and readily watchable show that can be accessed even if you miss an episode. And fox go ahead a cancel it?Didn't it get a crappy time slot and low budget anyway? I think it did well considering these odds and Fox need to reconsider and give the show a fair chance.Or at least ship it to Britain and watch the ratings go up over here. But we haven't even had breaking bad over here yet so what chance does this thing have? I feel sorry for the show because the characters especially stark are great, Great lines and cheesy with it make this show all that more amusing, someone said in a review not to watch it with too much of your brain, this is true and maybe a lot of people expected serious things as that's all it seems to be with cop stuff now, unless it has a live audience laughing at every little thing it must be serious. I hope someone else picks up this show and runs with it as fox clearly don't deserve it, they probably still think people watch the simpsons.

Nobody is doing spoofs better than Fox these days. While "Glee" may be getting all the hype, "The Good Guys" is every bit as good. What makes "The Good Guys" so great is that it's not just a mockery of cop show stereotypes and dumb plot lines -- it's a fully developed TV show that works on it's own. (just like "Glee") That's how both shows avoid the pitfalls of other parodies which get old once the gag wears off.Bradley Whitford ("Josh" on WestWing) plays the "not by the books cop" stereotype so spectacularly well that's it's hard not to snicker when you see other actors trying to do that same character straight.Colin Hanks nicely plays the "by the books partner" straight man to Whitford and the supporting cast is strong too. The bad guys are very scary-looking but the stuff coming out of their mouths is hilarious. The throw-away jokes are the best since "My Name is Earl" and the sub-plots (romances, etc) are as good as any TV show.My only criticism is that the black humor can be a little too dark for me (like an FBI agent getting killed) but mostly the violence is cartoonish, as it should be in a spoof.

I love this show! I started watching it over the summer and I was hooked. The reason I started watching it was because it was created by Matt Nix, who is behind my other FAVE show, Burn Notice. In the Good Guys, Bradley Whitford as Dan Stark is side-splitting. He plays his character with such sincerity - Dan is a cop who loves being a cop. His partner, Jack Bailey (played by Colin Hanks) is the perfect foil. I really hope that this series hangs on. They did have a one or two episodes that seemed kind of sluggish, but the other episodes completely made up for them. Fox has a history of canceling shows before they really have a chance (Firefly, anyone?), but hopefully with 20-ish episodes under its belt, The Good Guys will be around for awhile.
