Truly Dreadful Film
Clever, believable, and super fun to watch. It totally has replay value.
View MoreThe film was still a fun one that will make you laugh and have you leaving the theater feeling like you just stole something valuable and got away with it.
View MoreA clunky actioner with a handful of cool moments.
Those of us of a certain age will remember enjoying the cheesy, campy, classic TV show from our childhoods. This is not a re-tread of that. Neither is it a faithful adaptation of the original source material. What it is, is a fun adventure with some decent action and a similar tongue-in-cheek humour to 'Xena' and 'Hercules', so can we get Bruce Campbell in the next season please? Clearly, the plan is to make more, as the gang retrieve the remaining scrolls and face new foes, with the occasional recurring character too.In the older TV series, Tripitaka was a man, albeit played by a woman. This series seems to have picked that ball up and run with it, making the new Tripitaka a woman, playing a woman masquerading as a man. Another affectionate nod is the brief appearance of the old show's theme tune.As for the main protagonists, Tripitaka's is a strong performance, Pigsy is very likeable, Sandy is an endearing space-cadet, but the Monkey King himself lacks that impulsive wildness that I'd expect of the character. I don't dislike him, but he doesn't have the anarchic quality I'd like.I have recently revisited a few episodes of the old show, and it really does show its age, especially when it comes to pacing and fight sequences. I still love it, but am also happy to see a modern take on the legend. The way the main villain of this series was dealt with was a little too simple. I'd have preferred something a bit more inventive, without using the McGuffin from earlier on.I hope this gets the green light for more seasons.
View MoreAt first I was like -_- Then I was like XD Finally, when the first season ended, I was like ;_;Basically, it starts really stupid and you wonder if this is what you signed up for. But then, as the story and characters unfold, and you get in tune with this show's camp tone, it becomes entirely charming. I don't have the original to compare it to, so that may help my enjoyment. Sounds like they changed a lot from the "old" legends, so I suggest going into this series as if it were a totally different franchise. If you don't take it seriously, you can instead enjoy the silly characters, great set design, awesome costumes, and the marvelously multi-racial cast. This show includes actors of all colors and nationalities without it feeling weird, forced, or pandering, which is an incredible achievement. Can't wait for the new season.
View MoreThe series is great and can be watched with your family for fun and action!! Those who rated this low need to realize people enjoy a funny action series which are no longer produced on mainstream tv, instead we are bombarded by gory cop shows or hospital shows or "reality tv series". Those who complain about this series would have complained about Gilligans Island, the Brady Bunch, Get Smart, Brisco County Jr and other fun action series. Netflix lets have a season 2!!!!
View MoreRight off the bat, this show reminded me in a lot of ways of Xena: Warrior Princess and Hercules. Kind of the same type of vibe and tone, that's not a bad thing, but it makes the episodes kind of blend together. You can almost watch it in the background and not pay full attention to what is going on and still follow what's happening. Overall I enjoyed it. It's very easy viewing. The episodes are very short and it's entertaining. Truthfully, this is just the kind of show I've been searching for. Something I can throw on to kill 25min, that isn't too heavy on drama or seriousness. If you're a fan of either of those shows, this might just scratch that itch. I can't wait for Season 2.
