Excellent, a Must See
Excellent but underrated film
An Exercise In Nonsense
At first rather annoying in its heavy emphasis on reenactments, this movie ultimately proves fascinating, simply because the complicated, highly dramatic tale it tells still almost defies belief.
View MoreThis movie is obviously supposed to be social commentary more than horror. And this could be fine only it doesn't work out for me. It is about evils of technology but also about the evil rich (and of course white) society. I think it was overdone watching the girls showing how horrible they are. Them talking about their parents was a pretty eye rolling scene. When it comes to acting the young girls did a good job especially considering that for most of them this is pretty much the beginning of acting experience. Timothy Hutton who we know is a great actor seemed to be awful but this was just because of how his part was written. All that knife wielding at 12 year olds was just bizarre and seemed out of character. Chloë Sevigny was lucky she actually got a good character so she could actually show that she is good. Natasha Lyonne and Taryn Manning probably just know the director and wanted to give her their names as they are on screen for about 15 seconds. So yes it was pretty disappointing. Just a nice setting and camerawork which saves this movie from being a 1/10.
View MoreThere's a lot of film making wrongs with this movie but it shouldn't be completely discounted. The graphics are cheesy and corny and it's really what kept me from pushing this up to a five out of ten. Some of the storyline is a little confusing and I'm not sure we really find any resolve with some of the way the social media posts were recorded. I do think this film is brave for using 12 year old little girls as their main characters and how rough they get. I also thought they did a pretty good job with their screen time. Some of the writing for the characters was pretty cliché. I wanted to know more about some of the adult characters and relationships, just a little more context. Again, if you find yourself a horror fan and a film connoisseur this will not be the flick for you. If you're a pre teen then maybe you'll be able to relate to some degree.
View MoreThis "movie" is disjointed, nonsensical and overall silly.Whoever wrote it needs to just stop now before they further damage what was once a worthwhile genre. Horror is no longer horror, it's how much fake blood and viscera can we splash across the screen. I'm really not sure what the point or "moral" of this particular tale was, but if it was cyberbullying is bad, that point has been made better long before this turd was ever released. Spend your time filing your nails, picking your nose or anything other than watching this movie.
View MoreWow just wow. I am amazed that #Horror has such a low rating of 3.5. Perhaps people are expecting a more straight forward horror story. While this film does have its flaws, I am so glad I didn't follow the negative reviews. Chloe Sevigny and Timothy Hutton give excellent and strong performances, so do the young ladies in the starring roles. I wish Natasha Lyonne and Lydia Hurst got more screen time. #Horror is definitely not a straight up horror film, it is more of an intense drama/thriller. There are horror elements but this is not what the film is about. This film raises questions about morality and how we treat each other as human beings. I do not want to give too much away, things take a little while to get going but there is a strong sense of foreboding and menace right from the get go. I would say that the low rating and negative reviews of this movie is totally unfair. There are 2 things that detract from the total impact of this film and it is those stupid animations that were used, also the fact that this was marketed as a true story. There are also a couple of annoying scenes where the girls have a fashion show etc, this really did not provide anything extra to the story. BUT do not let that put you off. For 1 or 2 minutes of annoyance, the rest of the film is very good and you should really see it for yourself before you make any assumptions. You will be pleasantly surprised. I for one cannot wait to see what writer/director Tara Subkoff comes up with next. She is one to watch out for in the future.
