Waste of Money.
This movie is the proof that the world is becoming a sick and dumb place
View MoreIt's no definitive masterpiece but it's damn close.
View MoreIt's an amazing and heartbreaking story.
I saw it when it came out in 1980, and then several times since then on cable or satellite. A great soundtrack, a pretty good story, and some good performances by Scott Glenn and the others. I'd not liked John Travolta much before (Kotter, Grease, etc.) so this was the first role I thought was "substantial." The Western theme (mixed with Houston astronauts, high tech oil rigs) was appropriate for the 1980s, where Texas was well into the high-tech revolution and yet where "cowboy regalia" was part of the culture.Again, the soundtrack was great. --Tim May, California
View MoreYesterday, I was trying to get some housework done. But, I was so tired and I kept getting sucked into the movie that just showed up on the TV in the bedroom. It was Urban Cowboy. I have never seen this movie and it turns out I should have counted my blessings. My poor son was playing computer in the other room and kept getting the lowdown...So, Bud is in love with Sissy...they get married after what appears to have been a one week courtship and move into a double-wide trailer, much to her delight...nasty and mean cowboy guy shows up and loads of drinking and bar fighting ensue...in a shocking turn of events, Bud and Sissy both end up cheating on each other...and despite Bud's explicit orders to stay off, defiant Sissy rides the new mechanical bull at Gilley's with all the sex appeal she can muster, ...Determined to win Sissy back, Bud decides to ride that bull with his own brand of flair and sexiness in the upcoming contest...nice old Uncle Bob dies in a fire at the plant, but not before giving sage advice to Bud about love and pride....mean cowboy guy robs Gilley's for the $5000 prize and is off to Mexico...But wait! Bud saves the day and gets the girl!! In conclusion, two hours of my life are gone and I will never get them back. (Sigh).
View MoreThis movie has it all, action, fighting, dancing, bull riding, music, pretty girls. This movie is an authenic look at middle America. Believe me, I was there in 1980. Lots of oil money, lots of women, and lots of honky tonks. Too bad they are all gone now. The movie is essentially just another boy meets girl, boy loses girl, boy gets girl back, but it is redeemed by the actors and the music. There is absolutely no movie with any better music that this movie, and that includes American Graffiti. It is a movie I watch over and over again and never get tired of it. Every time I watch it, I am young again, and it is time to go out honky tonking. The only reason I only gave it a 9 is because you cannot rate a movie zero, I do not feel you should rate one 10.
View MoreDoes anyone know what kind of pickup John T drove? I looks like a mid to late 70's Ford. This movie is my favorite as well as my wife's. It was the first memorable movie we saw as a married couple. The pick up is of interest as it is similar to the first truck I drove and recently found another like it. I would like to restore the pick up I have to resemble the on in the movie. Also the music was awesome, and the acting was great. Where and what is the lady who portrayed John's aunt? Also did John have a stunt double for the scene on the tower when he almost fell? Also what year of Mustang did Debra W drive in this show. It looked like a 60's model. Thanks,
