Exactly the movie you think it is, but not the movie you want it to be.

Horst in Translation (filmreviews@web.de)

This 35-minute movie is the first effort by Daniel P. Schenk as a writer and director (and supporting actor). And when you watch this, you get exactly what the title suggests: "A Gamer's Day" He steps out of bed, gets his room dark and starts chatting and playing all kinds of games. Gamer references are funny and will maybe never get old. This film has them all, but it's just too much and at some point gets repetitive, where I lost my interest mostly. I could have done with almost all the sequences of recordings from video games. I think this could have been kept down to 10-15 minutes, made more essential and it would have been truly hilarious. The references about the gamer's family and girlfriend and chat behavior were far more interesting than all the gaming sequences anyway. After a break of 9 years, Schenk has 2 movies coming up for 2015, also starring some family members of him just like this short movie. It will be interesting to see how his style has changed in the last almost 10 years at all. Best thing about this short film is maybe the music. Memorable songs from all kinds of genres included. It makes it at least easier to sit through. Oh and you don't need to be able to speak German to understand this short. There is no dialog in here, only problem is you won't understand the German text on the gamer's computer screen. Anyway, the runtime didn't destroy this film, but it hurt it a lot. Not recommended.
