Masterful Movie
Absolutely Fantastic
A bit overrated, but still an amazing film
There's a more than satisfactory amount of boom-boom in the movie's trim running time.
View MoreBumbling private detectives Bud Alexander (Bud Abbott in fine wisecracking form) and Lou Francis (a gloriously blundering Lou Costello) help clear the name of prize fighter Tommy Nelson (a solid performance by Arthur Franz), who was framed for murder by some mobsters. The only hitch is that Nelson has taken an invisibility formula that gradually causes him to go crazy.Director Charles Lamont keeps the enjoyable story zipping along at a snappy pace and maintains a likable lighthearted tone throughout. As usual, Abbott and Costello display an utterly engaging natural chemistry in the leads; their goofy antics are a riot to watch, with an inspired set piece at a restaurant and a climatic boxing match in which the invisible Nelson assists Lou in the ring rating as the definite sidesplitting comic highlights. Moreover, it's acted with zest by an enthusiastic cast: Nancy Guild radiates a sweet charm as Nelson's loyal girlfriend Helen Gray, Adele Jergens portrays moll Boots Marsden with sultry aplomb, Sheldon Leonard snarls it up nicely as formidable gangster Morgan, and John Daheim cuts an imposing figure as rival pugilist Rocky Hanlon. A total hoot.
View MoreYou cannot go wrong with this comedy-horror classic. This film started out to be a horror crime-drama in the family of the Invisible Man series but the studio changed it to make it a comedy with Lou Costello and Bud Abbott. I'm sure of the original story but I can tell you Abbott and Costello Meet the Invisible Man (1951) is a great film. One thing you will learn by watching the Invisible Man films - you want him on your side. This film is no exception as Bud and Lou found out. You will also what him on your side if you ever find yourself in a boxing ring - this film is a comical look at that idea.If you really want a fun day of films I would recommend this one along with Abbott and Costello Meet the Mummy (1955) and Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein (1948).9/10

View MoreI only watched this once, but that's my loss. I should see this again. Although not a big fan of these guys, I thought this was their funniest film, along with Abbot & Costello Meet Frankenstein. Although the latter is considered their best and most popular movie, my vote just might go to this one. This film was simply a lot of laughs from start to finish and the special-effects with the invisible man are good, too - even over 50 years later! The boxing scenes at the end of the movie are incredibly hokey but they are humorous as the "invisible man" helps Costello in the ring.Sometimes silly, sometimes stupid but generally fast-moving, this film is highly- recommended for those looking for an innocent, old-time comedy with a surprising amount of laughs.
