This movie is the proof that the world is becoming a sick and dumb place
View MoreAn absolute waste of money
This movie was so-so. It had it's moments, but wasn't the greatest.
View MoreGreat example of an old-fashioned, pure-at-heart escapist event movie that doesn't pretend to be anything that it's not and has boat loads of fun being its own ludicrous self.
View MoreThis is a quirky comedy set in Ireland about a flighty waitress with a string of broken hearts trailing her discovering the love of her life in the form of Adam - but this is only one string of the story. As she, her two sisters and brother weave the story of how Adam appeared in their lives from their own point of view you are led on a wonderfully mad story that ultimately tells you very little 'about Adam' but tells a good story nonetheless. And while I agree with a previous reviewer that Kate Hudson's accent leaves much to be desired its hardly the worst attempt at an accent I've ever heard in a film and largely doesn't distract if you simply say "that's a crap Irish accent" and then focus on the words. Wonderful acting by all of the sisters (Kate's accent aside) and when viewed as a film not simply as a "comedy" is a very good one.
View More"About Adam" is a cheerful pentangle, helped along by a charming young cast, unpredictable quirkiness and Irish blarney.Kate Hudson, in what was her first film role, shows off her Mom's smile to good effect.Frances O'Connor is atypically frenzied. And so on.All inspired by a lovable, enigmatic rogue whose sensuality turns on at least three sisters and a brother. The song choices are surprisingly conservative traditional pop, culminating effectively in Peggy Lee.(originally written 6/15/2001)
View Morei lived in Dublin when this film came out and it did catch the spirit of the time. Rich kids, trendy bars, just at the high point of the celtic tiger boom and Kate Hudson got the accent so 'roight' best Irish accent by an American I've heard. Another comment where they say it was useless(he is obviously an American 'top of the to you sor') its called a 'dart' accent. The film was a bit of an odd one alright Adam's personality and dress changes depending who he is wooing but he does it for all the right reasons 'a good shag and sure you'll be as right as rain'. I think it was the best Irish film to come out in a while.
View MoreAn excellent, inspiring movie. And maybe, just maybe, it'll convince a few of all those boring men in the world to be.. not boring. And not just men, women too.I bonded particularly with Frances O'Connor as Laura, hungry for passion and thrilled at what she found. I enjoyed seeing her evolve throughout the film, a lot because i get those bursts of passion, and i think next time i will try to make it more of an evolving experience than i previously have. It's funny because i found out about this movie (and decided to spend the time watching it) only because Kate Hudson was in it, because she does look great so it wouldn't be a complete disaster. And then I find out there are all these other talented actors in the movie too, and this Gerard Stembridge really seems to know what he's doing. Marvelous. And then of course, there was Adam. Given this much space to swing his arms about Stuart Townsend comes across as very convincing. Eager to please, taking every chance to spread some happiness. And with good reason too, because really.. why not?
