Sadly Over-hyped
While it doesn't offer any answers, it both thrills and makes you think.
View MoreA great movie, one of the best of this year. There was a bit of confusion at one point in the plot, but nothing serious.
View MoreActress is magnificent and exudes a hypnotic screen presence in this affecting drama.
View MoreTo be completely honest, My review on this film will only be based on the first 20 minutes, and even that was very hard to get through. As a writer, I can appreciate the story the writer wanted to tell but there were too many problems with the movie. From the poor acting to the even poorer dialogue, I was left with the desire to run away from my computer screaming. Even the opening sequence, which i will say was entertaining as I do love chaos and scenes with the world being reborn, seemed to be there more for the director than for the sake of the movie.Sure, the movie might be fabulous after this, which I obviously doubt, but I will not waste another minute on this movie to find out.
View MoreWhen you ask casual movie fans what their favorite movie is, you might get an answer like this: "Uh..I dunno...Jurassic Park 2 was cooler than the first... but Gladiator had people getting their heads cut off... and Scary Movie rocked, man... that movie is so funny." So what the hell do they mean? Well, beats me. Not too long ago, we were having a "philosophical" conversation about movies, when the subject came to Sci Fi. We were arguing which one was the best. One of my friends said, "Well, I gotta admit, the first Star Wars is a classic, but the prequel has its moments." I swear a tear came to my eye. I never thought I'd have this kind of conversation with one of my friends. My point here is that Alien Armageddon is a classic even to people who don't know Casablanca from Scooby Doo. It has everything you could possibly want: action, romance, cool creatures, quotable dialogue, a great score and many memorable moments. (Seriously, though, I don't mind aliens.) All this in a non-violent, non-racy, perfect-for-your-wee-ones package. There's a lot of awesomeness to this movie, and I would pass the limit of 1000 word before I could explain it all. The fact of the matter is, there's a lot of greatness to this movie. There's probably more greatness to this movie than there is to your LIFE. (Don't feel bad...) I used to be a fanatic. I used to know everything there was to know about Sci Fi. And you will notice that I didn't start my review by saying I was blah blah blah in 1977 when Star Wars came out. The acting here is not what's important. It's about on the same level as old adventure films of the 30's and 40's except for a few notable exceptions (McEwan, Scribner and a few supporting actors). What makes this movie exceptional is the whole spectacle that unfolds. This is never boring, rarely violent and always a treat to watch. All the creatures, all the characters, all the action scenes, all of this movie is basically perfect. People criticize it as being a groundbreaking movie, as being just stupid mindless action. Well, you guys are right. But that's what this movie was set out to be, that's what it is and that's why I like it.If you haven't already seen this... Well ,you probably haven't seen much anyway, so rent this. If you have seen this, watch it again. I think I will. 10/10
View MoreFor a Sci-Fi movie, then "Alien Armageddon" wasn't particularly impressive. However, I will say that I have seen worse movies than this one.The story is about a race known as the Nephilim (very original, eh?) who come to Earth and invade the planet to harvest resources from this planet (again, very original). But humanity does not just roll over and surrender, a small group of resistance fighters take up arms to fight back the invading alien force.Well, the storyline is fairly generic and right off the "let's make a Sci-Fi movie storyboard", as there is nothing new here whatsoever. It is all stuff that has been done countless times in other Sci-Fi movies. So don't get your hopes up.As for the characters in the movie, well you don't really bother much to form any kind of association or bond with any of them, as they are fairly two-dimensional and lacking characteristics.Effects-wise, then "Alien Armageddon" wasn't great. Sure, there was an effort put into it and they tried. I will give them as much as saying that the armors of the Nephilim was actually looking good, and the make-up effects on the hybrid (which looked a lot like a zombie) was actually quite cool. But the explosions and destructions of cities and such was lacking proper CGI effects to be believable. And for some reason people's heads kept exploding in a burst of liquid (without any meat or bones) whenever they got hit by the Nephilim weapons, yet, their weapons didn't leave marks on vehicles when they struck them. Odd. Very odd. There were some nice enough effects on some of the creatures, but nothing impressive. As for the resistance, it was said that they had an army waiting, but you never got to see this army, only a handful of people at the most. So it wasn't really as if you bought into the whole concept and the fact that humanity was actually struggling against a superior race from beyond the stars. In overall, then "Alien Armageddon" was below average and mediocrity. It was entertaining at times, but at other times it just took forever to get nowhere. So it wasn't an all together enjoyable experience.
View MoreI was looking around a big box store for something I had never seen. When I find one, I usually look it up on IMDb to make sure it doesn't suck, but in this case the movie was so cheap ($3) that I didn't care. I just wanted something to watch. From the cover (Yeah, I know what they say about books, and I guess the same goes for movies) it sounded like it might be an interesting story. It sounded like it was basically Cowboys vs Aliens. Unfortunately, it wasn't. It was one cowboy and a bunch of others, it was a very bad script, and very bad actors, and a sucky story.I sat there and watched the entire thing. It wasn't even so bad it was good, it just plain sucked. Mostly boring. I can give them a break here since at least it was a different story. In this movie Aliens have taken over and are keeping humans in cells. They have turned women into birthing machines, giving birth to some kind of genetically engineered meat that is fed to the other prisoners. The meat causes the prisoners to change over time, making them into a kind of vessel to house the aliens. It really sounds more interesting than the producers manage to make it. The script and acting, not to mention the direction, really turn this into not only a "B" movie, but one I wouldn't recommend to anyone. If you see this at a garage sale for 25 cents, save your money (unless you're in need of a spare DVD case, then talk them down to a nickle and throw the DVD away).
