A brilliant film that helped define a genre
Amazing worth wacthing. So good. Biased but well made with many good points.
View MoreThere are moments that feel comical, some horrific, and some downright inspiring but the tonal shifts hardly matter as the end results come to a film that's perfect for this time.
View MorePryce (Luis Induni) is a land baron who wants to force Carter (Tomas Blanco) sell his lands , but he and his son Billy (George Martin) to be opposed to it . Later on , Billy goes to town saloon , where he meets Black Jack (Jack Taylor) , a hoodlum's Pryce , and it happens some violent brawls . Then , the corrupt sheriff (Aldo Sambrell) appears there and he detains Billy , but he , helped by a dog , swiftly escapes from jail . After that , the nasty Pryce and other powerful owners organize a raid to invade Carter's lands and cut the barbwire as well as the fences . But Pryce's daughter hears the plans and warns Carter (Tomás Blanco) and his wife (Tota Alba) , but Carter doesn't believe her . Soon after , Black Jack fires their home with unexpected consequences . As Billy seeks vendetta but then shows up an Union captain (Alberto Dalbes) who investigates the deeds and he supports the pursued Carter .This Gazpacho Western is full of action , exaggerated characters , loads of go riding , double-crosses , but it also displays an exciting screenplay . Middlingly-staged action sequences with rousing crossfire and spectacularly bloody fights and brawls . It is full of thrilling events , shoot'em up , fighting , treason and riding pursuits . It's a medium budget film with usual actors , acceptable technicians , passable production values and middling results . So-so Western regarding a revenge story , with plenty of violence , shoot'em up , thrills and noisy action . Here the veteran director Klimovsky is partially inspired , though the ending is pretty predictable . Charismatic performance for the whole casting . The notorious Spaghetti actor , George or Jorge Martin is decent in his usual tough role , here as Billy Carter , an brave farmer turned into gunslinger and desperately wanting to revenge a killing , but a ruthless Pistolero , Jack Taylor , is on his trail . Jorge played several Westerns , he worked much for Alfonso Balcazar's factory , such as : ¨Clint the strange¨, ¨The return the Clint¨, ¨Oeste Nevada Joe¨, Thompson 1880¨ , ¨Taste of killing¨, ¨A pistol for Ringo and ¨The return of Ringo¨ . This one is a moving and early western with breathtaking showdown between the protagonist , a countryman becomes a gunslinger who is forced to make a fundamental choice about his life , against his relentless enemy , Jack Taylor , an extreme villain as well as racist who mistreats black people and kills mercilessly . George Martin is fine , he ravages the screen, rides , kills , shoots , hits and runs . There is plenty of thrills and action in the movie , guaranteeing some crossfires or stunts every few minutes . The film blends violence , high body-count and it's fast moving and quite entertaining . Anti-climatic and inappropriate score , in jazzy style , by Daniel White , Jesús Franco's regular , including some attractive and catching songs . There is a very odd implementation of shots in the camera work during some particular scenes as the film approaches its climax , as in the ending gunfights and the customary confrontation finale . There are many fine technicians and nice assistant direction and decent production design , being shot in Colmenar Viejo , La Pedriza , Manzanares Del Real , Madrid . This ¨Tortilla¨ or ¨Paella¨or ¨Gazpacho¨ Western was professionally directed by Leon Klimovsky , though it has flops and gaps , being strictly a Western fodder . Leon was a craftsman who directed all kind of genres , as Terror for Paul Naschy : ¨Marshall of hell¨, ¨Rebellion of dead one¨ , ¨Orgy of vampires¨ , ¨Werewolf shadow¨, ¨Dr Jekill vs. the werewolf¨ , Warlike : ¨June 44 attack force Normandy¨ , ¨A bullet for Rommel¨ , ¨Bridge over Elba¨ and Western ¨¨Badland drifter¨ , ¨Reverend Colt¨ , ¨Torrejon city¨ , ¨Death knows no time¨ , ¨Two thousand dollars for Coyote¨ , ¨A dollar for Sartana¨ and "A Few Dollars for Django" which appears as director the Spanish/Argentinean Leon Klimovsky , but actually, for the most part of its filming by the disagreements arising with Klimovsky was realized by Enzo G. Castellari . Rating : 5 . Average .
