At first rather annoying in its heavy emphasis on reenactments, this movie ultimately proves fascinating, simply because the complicated, highly dramatic tale it tells still almost defies belief.
View MoreMostly, the movie is committed to the value of a good time.
View MoreBobby Delton's death in a military exercise brings his family back home. His sister Angela Delton (Kelly Preston) has been estranged since getting pregnant. She returns with her rebellious teen daughter Dixie (Lindsey Haun). Her mother (Tess Harper) tries to stay positive but her father Jake (Burt Reynolds) still holds resentments. Angela is shocked to find Dixie's father, fading country singer Bo Price (Toby Keith), has also returned.Toby Keith is a stiff actor. I'm trying to accept that for this character. He's a piece of stone stuck in the middle of the screen. Kelly Preston is no great catch either. It's more interesting to see Burt again. The girl shows different sides and out performs everybody else. The music is pretty good and that helps a lot. Otherwise, it's a relatively unimaginative melodrama.
View MoreThe movie was absolutely fantastic. A very moving story line & great music. I am a huge Toby fan, unfortunately we don't have the honour of seeing him in the UK.It shows how people come together in hard, sad times & family's can be reunited after many years if your willing to try. Excellent film, whether your a country fan or not.Was good to see some huge stars like Willie nelson & Burt Reynolds, Kelly Preston. I was speechless when Lindsey Haun sang, she has the voice of an angel. I waited a long time for this, but i can definitely say it was well worth the wait. I really hope as well as singing, Toby will do more movies. Over all, its a great movie, one i could watch over and over again.
View MoreI have seen many movies over the years, so I may be a little too discriminating. That said, Broken Bridges did not live up to my expectations. The writing wasn't the best. The directing wasn't the best. And the sound people should never work in Hollywood again. That's not to say that Toby Keith is a bad actor. Quite the contrary, he shows real potential, and I really hope to see him in other movies, hopefully movies that are better written and allow Toby to really show his acting chops. Toby said that while it may not seem like a stretch, he is really different from his character, and unlike the real life Toby, Bo is struggling with his career. Toby...you're a great singer, brilliant songwriter, outstanding performer...but this wasn't much of a stretch. A cop, a lawyer, a teacher, or even a biker allows you to try out your acting chops. Toby plays a country singer, and Toby is really a country singer. Toby Keith's character dresses like...Toby Keith. But Toby did give a good performance, so I applaud him for that.Lindsey Haun had better become a big star. She's beautiful, and shes a great singer and actress...a double WHAMMY! Her performance of Broken was one of the highlights of the movie. This wasn't a huge blockbuster film, but I hope it was big enough to get people to notice this great talent. The soundtrack was very good, I'll give it that. But I was expecting much more with this film. It's great that so many people on here like it. It just wasn't for me.
View MoreMy family went to the early release on 9/7 at a local Knoxville, TN, theater. I loved the movie and so did my family. We thought Toby and the rest of the cast did a great job. This movie contained an important message that would be beneficial to anyone who has ever made a bad decision which led one down a destructive path in their life. It also shows the importance of mending relationships with your family and friends while you still can. So many times, people believe that they can't change and that no matter what, your loved ones won't forgive your mistakes. This movie shows that you can go back and make amends. People can change. Sometimes it takes a tragedy, which is horrible, but often necessary. I was thoroughly disappointed that there didn't seem to be any print advertisement of the movie. I'm sure that there was a limited amount of money for advertising; but, there was nothing in my newspaper at all. If I did not belong to Toby's fan club, I would not have known that the movie was being released. This movie deserved more advertisement than it received. Great job Toby, from a loyal fan.
