That was an excellent one.
I was totally surprised at how great this film. You could feel your paranoia rise as the film went on and as you gradually learned the details of the real situation.
View MoreThis is one of the few movies I've ever seen where the whole audience broke into spontaneous, loud applause a third of the way in.
View MoreThe film creates a perfect balance between action and depth of basic needs, in the midst of an infertile atmosphere.
View MoreYou put two of the greatest b-movie action stars in a movie. And you don't have them fight. The story is not as original as the wrighter/director thinks, so it's an anti climax when the movie stars don't get to do what they're good at. All-in-all, this is a cheap ass action movie with a bunch of famous actors.
View MoreChaos is about a suspended detective (Statham) who is teamed up with a rookie detective (Ryan Phillippe) to catch a bank robber (Snipes). The bank robber did not steal any money but used a computer virus (based on the Chaos theory, hence the title of the movie) to transfer millions of dollars away from the bank. When the bank robber then starts killing off his accomplices, things get messy for our detectives. The story of Chaos is interesting and the movie starts great with the hostage situation in the bank. After that, however, the movie crawls to a very slow speed when Statham and Phillipe try to work out what has happened. There are some good action moments later on but there are to few to make it a good action movie. It could have been a crime thriller, but unfortunately there is hardly any suspense build up in the movie. The actors (with the exception of Phillipe, who was the only believable character) are all incredible dull and some are just reading their lines. Statham was also miscast, he cannot play a detective with a traumatic past, he is just Statham. Seeing him teamed up with a rookie reminded me of Snatch, but that movie is full of black comedy and cool gangsters, which this movie also lacked. There is a twist at the end, but they did such a poor job with suspense building that I couldn't care any more when it was revealed. Chaos is a mediocre and disappointing movie which could have worked with better acting and suspense building.
View MoreThe story opens up strongly with the background incident that explains the situation of one of the main characters. It gets better as the movie builds up its story right after the opening in a fast paced fashion. Being more of a detective crime movie than an action, this movie sure was able to bend the viewers expectation from wanting a heavy set action packed flick, to one of intricate story of well-spun web of lies. The twists are build decently with all the neatly placed small details. Despite they are so very much predictable, the twists are appreciable enough when they arrive considering that many of the twists are being build just as the movie comes to a half time duration or so. Jason Statham acted out his character nice enough although it's with less appearance of his great martial arts skills. Wesley Snipes portrayed the antagonist also very well, engaging the viewers focus on the character as the blame point, until the very last twist. Ryan Phillippe fills the shoes of the rookie character stupefied by his new partner quite adequately also.
View MoreThis is one of the movies you have to follow closely, popping into kitchen or toilet could impair your understanding what is really going on, and if/how the different events are connected. The distinction of good/bad guys obtains another meaning and even if you realize that something is happening inside the police, it is not easy to find out who and why... That is why I liked the movie in spite of lots of clichés (especially during chases) and non-top-class actors (e.g. Jason Statham is not bad, but he is still no Bruce Willis or Mel Gibson). Ryan Phillipe and Wesley Snipes were surprisingly good, their characters were realistic and elaborated. Well, in fact, it turned out, that everything was planned... And as mistakes were basic, so the ending is logical. Recommendable to those fond of mind-twisting during the course of a move.
