You won't be disappointed!
It’s an especially fun movie from a director and cast who are clearly having a good time allowing themselves to let loose.
View MoreInstead, you get a movie that's enjoyable enough, but leaves you feeling like it could have been much, much more.
View MoreThe film creates a perfect balance between action and depth of basic needs, in the midst of an infertile atmosphere.
View MoreIt seemed like this movie would be hilarious with John C. Reilly and Jonah Hill, but it was anything but. What I really didn't like was the way it was filmed. Shaky frame, jerky zooming, and parts were like when I take a photo and wait for my camera to focus.DIsappointed.
View MoreWhen Hollywood turns out a movie for adults we can't all start whining that it wasn't the funniest thing we've ever seen billed as a comedy or the most moving piece of drama since The Godfather. Be thankful someone is willing to bankroll talented young filmmakers. BTW, executive producers are Ridley Scott and Tony Scott. The movie walks a fine line but remains believable. I cringed a bit. And I laughed out loud several times. The performances were fantastic. My one criticism has been stated before -- the stupid zooming in and out. Save it for a montage scene or a bridge between Act 2 and 3. But to use it throughout the entire movie? It gets old fast. Overall I wish more movies were made like this. And fewer that relied on fart jokes, acting like an idiot, and Will Ferrell.
View MoreAnyone expecting this movie to have you laughing 'till you cry would be sadly disappointed. Despite this, the movie "Cyrus" delivers an interesting and possibly relatable story to anyone who enjoys a little but of dry humor. Many people must have been misled when they discovered that there would be a film coming out with 2 of possibly the funniest actors right now, Jonah Hill and John C. Riley. What was expected to be a raunchy, cuss filled laugh your a$$ off film like "Superbad" or "Stepbrothers" turned out to be something much better than that. This is the rare type of comedy where you laugh half as much, but find the story twice as funny. The characters, especially John and Cyrus, play their roles so genuinely, without the type of forced humor and cheesy clichè lines and development that has overtaken the industry today. The territorial feuds between Jonah Hill's character, a sheltered mommy's boy, and John, played by John C. Riley, unravels and quickly expands into a burning hatred. The humor is situational, you won't find many one-liners that get you laughing till you die, but you'll find that their characters speak much more than words and that if you are into these types of comedies, you will not only appreciate this clever film, but adore it.
View MoreI didn't see the trailers, consequently I wasn't expecting a zany comedy. Actually the actors' lineup -- John C. Reilly, Jonah Hill, Marisa Tomei -- could have also lead me to expect a comedy. But in fact, I wasn't expecting anything. So I was pleased to find a bold movie which kept my interest but left me in the open as to where the story was heading to. In many ways, and although it's in no way a horror movie, it's creepier than "Psycho". It's dark in a good way, like some beers are. If I had stopped watching this movie until 15 minutes before the titles, and had had to describe it, I wouldn't have known how to class or rate this movie. The good thing is, you wouldn't want to quit watching Cyrus until the credits. I didn't, and can consequently rate this movie as great, but I won't tell you the synopsis because I want you to see the movie for yourself. That's how great it is.And it's good to see that unconventional movies like that are still coming out of a mainstreamed hellhole like Hollywood.
