Purely Joyful Movie!
I gave this film a 9 out of 10, because it was exactly what I expected it to be.
View MoreIt isn't all that great, actually. Really cheesy and very predicable of how certain scenes are gonna turn play out. However, I guess that's the charm of it all, because I would consider this one of my guilty pleasures.
View MoreWhile it is a pity that the story wasn't told with more visual finesse, this is trivial compared to our real-world problems. It takes a good movie to put that into perspective.
View MoreThis is a better movie that comes off better than you think, with a half decent story and capable performances, most impressive, that of an uncharacteristic, scruffy bearded Gail, who heads the worst taxi business in, well, D.C. Just watch how some of his weird, wacky, and totally likable drivers, conduct their work, and that's what makes it enjoyable fun. It's characters, the wild Busey, the memorable standout, apart from Gail. This movie has the right pool of actors, including Mr T, a must here. We have a more reputable taxi business, trying to lure one of the drivers, from the less reputable, or non reputable taxi company. We have new employee Baldwin, with big dreams, who wants to make something out of this taxi stand of less repute. A subplot is thrown in, sort of, which brings our deadbeat delinquent drivers of D.C Cab to the rescue. I love the reckless attitudes of the cab drivers, who change their form, later, thanks to Baldwin, so this film, sets a solid ground message. That, followed by a great soundtrack, by Irene Cara, and a great memorable pageant scene finale/end credit sequence, makes this a good watch. There are many memorable classic moments, in this '84 Comedy, that has some great boobies, great mateship and exciting, ala, Schumacher.
View MoreI watched Joel Schumacher's "D.C. Cab" because I saw that Bill Maher co-starred in it, and I wanted to see his early appearance. He only plays one of several misfits driving taxis throughout Washington, DC. Naturally the movie's main selling point is Mr. T. In the end it comes across as one of those '80s movies that was a big excuse to be goofy*. More than anything, it shows a grittier side of our nation's capital (and I don't mean the government!). I enjoyed it. The rest of the cast includes Adam Baldwin, Gary Busey, Whitman Mayo (Grady on "Sanford and Son") and DeWayne Jessie (Otis Day in "Animal House"). It's too bad that Joel Schumacher went on to direct the worst Batman movies.*That was how "Weird Al" Yankovic described "UHF".
View MoreIn the winter of 1983 I was 12 and saw this film with a childhood friend at a theater that carded no one. Ha! My parents would have killed me. Then him. The theater was a show in itself every time we went. Our town was full of meth cooking bikers and there was a rival biker fight (complete with broken whiskey bottles for weapons) while my aforementioned friend and I were trying to watch Time Bandits. We snuck up to the front row to continue watching the movie, and hoped no one pulled a gun in there. Memories. ;) I had seen the R-rated Blade Runner with my dad the year in earlier in 1982, and I felt like such a grown-up. I remember noticing Bill Maher's nose in D.C. Cab, but didn't remember doing that or him being in the film until I watched it again in 2011. It is also nice to watch a movie where black characters feel comfortable enough to call stupid white people crackers. Loud, brash, fun, wacky movie. Awesome.
View MoreD.C. Cab is one of my favorite "stupid" movies. By that, I mean you just turn off your brain and don't think about what you're watching. The cast of D.C. Cab is a hoot; Max Gail as the loveable goof, Adam Baldwin as the earnest young man, Mr. T as the strong, moral force and the young Bill Maher, Paul Rodriguez and Marsha Warfield. And Gary Busey steals every scene he's in with his non-sequitor dialogue. Very little of what he says makes sense, but it's funny. But D.C. Cab does have a moral, that if you really believe and work hard, you can make your life better. It's a fun movie, a good way to spend a rainy afternoon. And stick around for one final scene after the credits are over.
