A brilliant film that helped define a genre

This is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.

My god this movie just doesn't end. This could be used as a torture technique. Just doesn't go anywhere. I could say how unrealistic this is, but I'm sure I'd get people saying Will Ferrell doesn't make movies that are supposed to be taken seriously. No what he makes are movies that would make a great 5 minute skit on SNL and has no idea how to take it past the fifth minute.

I found this funnier than most critics did, but it's one of Will Ferrell's better recent comedic films, and adding Mark Wahlberg to the equation made this film a hit for me. Great laughs and simple fun. A well deserved 8/10 from me

I really liked watching the other guys so I thought their might be some of the same chemistry here with Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell. Boy was I wrong. This movie is unbelievably bad. Unfunny, poorly written, terrible story just a mess. The story itself is just bad. Its unbalanced. Plus their are some really random things like an out of nowhere dance off with Bill Burr near the end of the film which is just cringe worthy. Also the motorcycle scene. What in the world. Do not believe the other reviews I have no idea how people could like this

There's no denying that Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg are comedy magic. I've seen them be funny before in The Other Guys, a movie that isn't groundbreaking by any means but is admittedly much better than this movie. In Daddy's Home, I don't see that magic. So the plot is basically about Will Ferrell who has a smoking hot wife (Linda Cardellini) and two step-kids. Just when he thinks his life is perfect, Cardellini's ex-husband (Mark Wahlberg) shows up for no real reason to stay with the family indefinitely. Need I go on? This is basically Jack and Jill without Adam Sandler. I absolutely despise the characters. They are atrocious. The wife is bar none the worst character in the whole movie. In the beginning, she warns Ferrell about her ex-husband, but ends up siding with Wahlberg and even takes him back after throwing Ferrell out of the house. The acting is solid, except for the kids. They are everything you hate in child actors. They're just annoying as hell. I forgot to mention how unfunny this movie is. This movie goes for every crude PG-13 joke in the book, plus some second grade poop jokes and characters talking about impotency. Some the things that happen to Ferrell and Wahlberg that are so ridiculously cartoonish that you have wonder what reality this movie is set in. The part where Will Ferrell drunkenly lashes out at Wahlberg and accidentally throws a basketball at a cheerleader and a disabled kid is the most painful scene in the whole movie. There is a funny joke once in a while (most notably from Hannibal Buress), but that's not saying much. I found this movie to be more mean-spirited than funny. How on Earth do people think this is a family movie? It's too vulgar and mean-spirited for kids and too stupid for their parents. What is wrong with entertainment right now?
