Just perfect...
How sad is this?
Your blood may run cold, but you now find yourself pinioned to the story.
View MoreThis is a coming of age storyline that you've seen in one form or another for decades. It takes a truly unique voice to make yet another one worth watching.
View MoreWell, we don't get many Finnish horror films, so you'd hope that DARK FLOORS might be good, a low budget gem of a horror film perhaps. Sadly it turns out to be a rather predictable psychological horror with all manner of goofiness and not much in the actual way of quality to recommend it.It's essentially a single location thriller, a la CUBE, in which a disparate group of characters find themselves trapped in an abandoned hospital setting. Is this real life, or are they in somebody's nightmare? Are the ghosts and ghouls assailing them real, or hallucinations? To be honest, you won't really care, because this is all rather familiar and predictable. The ending twist is obvious from the beginning, so viewers are left with a simple 'ghost train' ride of a film. The heavy metal rock group Lordi are the guys behind this, and they show up in monster costumes throughout, which is all rather ridiculous, although not as ridiculous as the rubbishy CGI spook which keeps showing up and looks like something out of HARRY POTTER. There are some surprisingly good cast members here - a weary Ronald Pickup, PILLARS OF THE EARTH's Skye Bennett, and best of all an expertly acerbic William Hope (ALIENS) - but they're wasted in what is a middling film.
View MoreI heard that this was a film with the band Lordi in, so put off watching it, though was curious. With curiosity eventually getting the better of me, I was surprised by the high production values of what was on the screen, though the story was non-existent and once the band starting showing up in their daft monster costumes, those production values had been for nought. If you're wondering what it's all about, well, so was I, and 53 minutes into the film, neither myself nor the actors were any the wiser. I didn't know how much longer the film went on and couldn't be bothered holding down the forward button to see how it ended, because I'd grown bored with it all before the half an hour mark.I guess the lesson to be learnt from this is that producers shouldn't make films based on the ideas of bad metal bands who dress up like Iron Maiden's mascot, and that viewers shouldn't waste their time on it.
View MoreDark Floors is visually and technically brilliant but all the other things that make a good movie are lacking. Firstly there's no plot, or if there is it's very linear and not enough to make a movie. It's more like a TV movie or some horror series episode than full length feature.Secondly it is very unoriginal as it copies Silent Hill themes and storyline shamelessly. It's just Silent Hill with Lordi's monsters.Thirdly as there is not much of a story and there isn't plausible characters either. They just wander around the hospital floors and very frequently get stuck in an elevator and run away from monsters that are not so scary. The lack of direction is obvious and i think that the blame can't be put on the actors. In overall this movie seems to be a collection of wasted ideas and possibilities to make a meaningful film. It's disappointing as it is to see a film with well made atmospheric audio, sets and just about everything else than a plausible plot. I'm not even particularly harsh on horror films in general but this movie just is what it is.The Finnish cinema doesn't have much of a horror movie tradition but i certainly don't wish them to make another "fake-hollywood" film. It won't work.I think the fans of Lordi might enjoy this film but for everyone else it's completely skippable.
View MoreDark Floors is a very interesting moving. It is thought provoking, dark and paced well. Unfortunately not to many other compliments can be given to this movie. It is thought provoking because it is flat out so random and no explanations are given.Dark Floors has some fundamental pieces of a good fantasy horror. There are some interesting terrors and the setting is great. The acting is average but none of these things can save this movie. This movie seems like it's a great movie with about 15 minutes of plot oriented scenes cut out. The movie makes no sense and doesn't even try to bring you along for the ride. It's sad because the movie was beginning to remind me of a crappy Silent Hill, but just ended up being crappy.I would recommend this movie to anyone who wants to pay as little attention to a movie as possible and not miss anything.
