Sorry, this movie sucks
Fun premise, good actors, bad writing. This film seemed to have potential at the beginning but it quickly devolves into a trite action film. Ultimately it's very boring.
View MoreIt really made me laugh, but for some moments I was tearing up because I could relate so much.
View MoreMostly, the movie is committed to the value of a good time.
View MoreThis movie is nothing more than a "Home Made" movie produced with a generic camera and very amateur effects. This film is an insult to the Horror genre. I made the mistake of walking into my local ASDA (Wal Mart for you Americans) and looking at the cover thinking it could have potential. Big mistake. I feel violated. Please people, DO NOT view this movie, you have better things to do. This piece of trash lacks any story, acting and meaning. I have had more enjoyable experiences like jumping into a bunch of nettles with no clothes on than the experience of watching this rubbish. One thing is for sure, the local dump it site will be having a great time incinerating this rubbish.
View More1/10 Bought this from my local Cash Generator for 50p and never turn down a bargain. Within the 1st few seconds I could tell that this movie wasn't going to be great due to the poor acting. The blood and guts you see from the 1st on screen (pre credits) death is clearly just some sort of material. I mean why couldn't animal guts be used to make it look a bit more realistic? The sound man on this film did a really poor job its hard to hear any of the actors furthest away from the microphone. Why was there a disabled person in the mens toilet when there was clearly a toilet marked for disabled people? Normal toilets never have their own disabled toilet when there's a separate one! Now mash potato looking sick? No sick I've ever seen looks like that. All of these problems are less than 20 minutes in. There's footage of a highway and then suddenly there on a road through the woods? What was the point of the random stock footage of the highway exactly? I'm confused as to the age these people are meant to be as they look in there late 20s to early 30s but I'm guessing they are meant to be teens. I also don't get why in films people happily have sex with their friends about but would anyone actually do that? I highly doubt it. When the ginger guy is peeing why is there a close up of it? I mean it's an awful fake everything! Why does no one hear anyone screaming they haven't gone that far and would still hear it! The fat guy was running away from his girlfriend yet end up running back towards her without turning round? How that works I have no idea! The girl with the red streak in her hair has to be the worst actor as her screaming is awful and just her acting in general is bad. Also how would a car shred the geeky guy to bits? Its not that powerful! The deaths of the blind people on the bus are just stupid. These people are blind not dumb I'm sure they would recognise something bad was happening and try to run not just sit there Wouldn't recommend this film to anyone its full of flaws and is just awful.
View MoreI never write reviews but seeing as people connected to the film and the god awful company that made it 101 seem to be writing reviews saying its a classic i thought i better. I am a massive lover of horror films from Bad Taste to Nightmare on Elm street Halloween to The Burning. I don't care if the acting isn't world class in a horror don't mind to much if the story is rubbish its all about the atmosphere the scares the bad guy etc etc. This film is tragic the guy trying to cop a feel and the way that whole scene plays out is retarded its like a PG movie 'oooh i wanna touch your tits' 'no don't touch me' on and on bla bla bla. filmed in the style and with the budget of a porn i put the DVD straight in the bin after i watched it (no joke) If you wanna watch a good low budget horror there is loads. Bad Taste Halloween etc etc these films prove you don't need a big budget to make a film work. In conclusion there is no reason in the world to watch this film if it was a matter of life and death id happily get my coat and say my goodbyes. Hope this saves you some trouble Laterzzzzz
View MoreI read a critic's review about Deadly Detour where the reviewer referred to it as "Slasher Porn at it's finest" and after seeing the movie I have to say that I couldn't agree with that statement more. If you get off on slasher flicks then you should blow your load watching this. It has blood, gore, violence, sex... the works. Is it a good movie? I won't lie to you, it's not. It has problems with sound, a couple of continuity issues, and some scenes that didn't make sense at all. What Deadly Detour is, though, is an excellent first attempt at film-making by Mike O'Mahony, a talented writer and director who shows that he may very well be going places. While some aspects of the film didn't work, other aspects worked very well. There were some shots that looked studio quality, the humor was spot on (the 'Want Some?' scene is classic), and the over the top in your face violence was exactly what you'd expect. Actually, there's a bus scene at the end of the movie that is way MORE than you'd expect, but to me it makes the whole thing worthwhile. And while the acting was far from Oscar worthy, keep in mind that these are not experienced actors and the film was shot on a shoestring. One standout is James Costa as Zach, who seemed to be channeling John Belushi. Erich Ficke also did an excellent job as The Goatman. I'm not really sure WHY he was called the Goatman when he didn't really look like a goat at all but more like a deformed psychopath, but I believe that it ties into an old urban legend in Maryland which is where the film supposedly takes place. While I wish the mask had more expression, Ficke commanded the character with an imposing presence. He's a big guy, and I can see him taking up the mantle of Jason Voorhees one day. Thumbs ups also go to Stacey Hartman as Jenna for being super hot and Julie Ann Hamolko for being hot in a Zooey Deschanel sort of way. Hamolko shows she's got some acting chops as well and I look forward to seeing her again. And lastly, Fred Ficke, Erich Ficke's real life father, steals the show with his cameo as the doomed bus driver of that final scene. All in all, Deadly Detour is a great first try, it could very well become an underground classic, and I look forward to future films from Maniac Films.
