One of the best films i have seen

I like Black Panther, but I didn't like this movie.

A brilliant film that helped define a genre

This is ultimately a movie about the very bad things that can happen when we don't address our unease, when we just try to brush it off, whether that's to fit in or to preserve our self-image.

Three very talented actors come together in a beautifully spun tale. In fact, Tandy in particular is one of the most talented I've ever seen and is always a delight. Unlike most movies today, this one addressed racism of the day without hitting you over the head with it like a sledgehammer and presented it in a balanced, objective way (and really the main story is about the relationship between these two). Although Miss Daisy has her share of racist undertones, she's not a monster; far from it...and she learns to let go of it as Hoke patiently endures and wins her over. Freeman presents his character honestly - uneducated but wise, and needless to say extremely patient. :) Ackroyd also plays a superb supporting role and has always been an underrated actor in my opinion. Just a great film where everything meshes beautifully and one of the more deserving Oscar winners I've ever seen.

Driving Miss DaisyThe writer; Alfred Uhry, has spent a lot on the bonding of the lead characters which is clearly visible and thoroughly moving and entertaining, that clearly stands alone and becomes the highlight of this subtle dramatic feature. Bruce Bereford is decent on executing the scene and offering the appropriate tone to it but a better editing and cinematography would have changed the whole course. Morgan Freeman holds on to his part tightly along with Jessica Tandy who overpowers Morgan completely with her genuinely moving performance. Driving Miss Daisy is a slow pill that is effective to its core but it sure tests one's patience along with it which in the end is worth the drama.

The film obviously deals primarily with the issue of racial bigotry - specifically in the southern United States. It gives you a great feel for the way things were in that part of the world, from the 40's through to the present day. The film follows the relationship (it would be too simplistic merely to call it friendship) between a widowed Jewish lady, Daisy Werthan, and her black chauffeur Hoke. Miss Daisy is adamant she neither wants nor needs the driver, provided by her exasperated son to ensure she doesn't have any more car accidents. However, over the next quarter century her frostiness thaws (albeit sporadically) and an understanding develops between this unlikely pair.Jessica Tandy and Morgan Freeman well deserve the accolades they have received for their roles in this film. These talented actors have to share the limelight though - with a truly magnificent classic car ensemble. If you think modern cars are boring, it is worth viewing this film merely for the pleasure of seeing Miss Daisy's succession of cars - beautiful classic models from the late 1940's to the early 1970's - a time when cars truly deserved the title 'automobile'. With great character development and spot-on performances by the cast, Driving Miss Daisy is an example of "old" Hollywood, taking time to tell a story about people you can care about, and without polemics that require choosing sides. That it was a box office smash and Best Picture of the year only goes to show that the public mood in the late 1980's was accepting of a quiet and low-key presentation, as long as it was a good story well told. Overall rating: 8 out of 10.

While Driving Miss Daisy isn't what i call a best picture winner, since there were more deserving movies that came out that year, but the movie shouldn't get hate just for that.The movie is sweet, charming and heartwarming. This is the kind of film that granny's go to watch and after it's over their something like "That was nice". Morgan Freeman and Jessica Tandy were excellent in this movie, as both of them had great chemistry and very entertaining conversations between them.It dose get kind of dull at times and i do wish the films pasting was a bit better, but that's just me. I say it's worth checking out, because there's plenty of things to like and appreciate in this movie.
