DRUGLAWED is the explosive documentary exposing how New Zealand has been co-opted by the US into fighting the failed War On Drugs. Filmed in six countries over four years, this is the documentary that finally clears the smoke around the international prohibition of cannabis. Over the last 100 years the US government has forced its drug control policies on almost every country on earth. 40 years since Richard Nixon declared the War On Drugs in 1972, 22 million Americans have been arrested for marijuana. Only one country in the world has higher arrest and conviction rates: New Zealand. DRUGLAWED examines how New Zealand fell in lockstep with US policies, and shows how smaller countries can break out.

Best movie ever!

A film of deceptively outspoken contemporary relevance, this is cinema at its most alert, alarming and alive.

Simply astonished by the way this film was put together! Great editing, solid camera work, excellent graphics, well-structured and highly entertaining from beginning to end. Amazed at how this film encapsulates so many aspects of the failed Drug War and by the original content which deviates from the same fact list that most films of this subject cover - especially the history of NZ cannabis being established by a Catholic order of nuns. What would Mother Mary Aubert say about the prohibition of her most valuable crop? This is the kind of activist film that should be on every TV station. Download this film so that the producers can make as sequel!

What a great documentary! I, and the friends who watched it with me, were blown away by how tight and interesting the documentary was. Great editing, great music and a well told narrative about the vested corrupt interests that have led our country and our justice system astray. We learned a lot about the early history of cannabis in New Zealand and how it was widely used and respected. What a shame that a few corrupt individuals in the United States made the whole world go down a very unproductive path. You may have heard parts of this story before, but the documentary pulls together all of the disparate pieces into one story. You owe it to yourself to get a copy of this DVD and share this with your family and friends. You won't be disappointed.

The film makers went to enormous lengths to gather perspectives from ex-policemen, scientists, doctors, economists, addiction specialists and policitians to slam the US- style prohibition that has been imposed on New Zealand and every other country. Even graphic artist and former Black Panther leader Emory Douglas makes an appearance.Expertly edited, the film weaves multiple story lines together in a narrative arc that comes to an inpiring conclusion, as they get their validation from 72% of New Zealand voting in favour of their position in a televised debate before a national audience, proving that it's only a small, ignorant minority that is keeping the Drug War fiasco going.

The cannabis laws get slammed in an exciting, informative, tightly woven narrative that spans 150 years and several continents, without skipping a beat. With its narrow focus on New Zealand and a wider focus on the international prohibition handed down by the USA and the UN, the film documents the rise of Harry Anslinger and Reefer Madness and its evolution into a global marijuana prohibition that has caused immeasurable devastation to societies and ecosystems around the world. A rise in police militarism, the prison industrial complex, crop spraying, racism, the erosion of human rights and access to medicine, all of the flow-on costs of cannabis prohibition are detailed in a logical sequence of 9 chapters. This film instantly takes its place among the pantheon of cannabis documentaries.
