It is a performances centric movie
Good start, but then it gets ruined
Best movie of this year hands down!
While it is a pity that the story wasn't told with more visual finesse, this is trivial compared to our real-world problems. It takes a good movie to put that into perspective.
View MoreThis one is not for the feint of heart. Eat is a warped mutilation fantasy. What kind of twisted, depraved freak came up with the story of a self-inflicting cannibal?! Hopefully, thankfully, they are probably on some kind of watch list, I'm sure. Eat is the story of Novella McClure, a blonde bombshell with a rocking body. You may know her from such eating disorders as cannibalizing her own flesh. She's not a zombie, she's just a little confused. Your friendly neighborhood therapist Dr. Simon is there for her. He sees something in her. Did I mention she looks like Marilyn Monroe? The opening scene is the same old "person waking up in the morning" bit, only Novella brings something new to the table: herself. Did I mention she's easy on the eyes? The story has character development and a dramatic plot. The main character is a struggling actress. She's got problems. Her bestie is violent, she's broke, she's being evicted, she's on suicide watch, and she's dating her therapist. When the pressures of life just get a little too bad to bare, Novella feasts on her own body parts. I could actually see this happening. It's not that different from cutting, which is a serious problem affecting young girls. Eat definitely had its moments. It's Hannibal Lechter meets Rigoletto. You'll love it, unless, of course, you're a vegetarian.
View MoreThough the some horror parts are difficult to tolerate sometimes (eating own hand and leg), the movie started very well. Story went very smoothly with enjoyable ups and downs. Some factual errors are very prominent and too much bloodiness made me bit sick. Still due to picturization and storyline, and overall acting movie is well enjoyable. Thriller part is well documented. But last ten minutes it became a menace of its own. Within ten minutes we experienced four deaths. An absurd picturization of eating own heart after taken out from living body put me off. Acting wise Candice (Ali Francis) is best, followed by Novella (Meggie Maddock); both of them did their best. He who doesn't like bad ending of a movie shouldn't watch this.
View Morethis is my first movie review and i don't really understand what spoiler means..the poster, the name are very attractive, i was thinking if it is like any other usual horror bloody film. maybe cannibal girls eating people?Surprisingly the story is talking about an actress in Hollywood start eating herself because of starve.I think this movie has a beautiful frame which is very suitable for the story, glory bright color frame in the intro of the start, interior design and how they dressed up is fit, art director did a great job. and those bloody scenes are very successful... they really make me feeling not well, great job! when i see Novella with a makeshift cone it totally reminds me of the puppy in the beginning, the ending is corresponding to the beginning, love it. the direction is new for me, break the boring standard of horror film!also.. something that i think could be better,In the movie, we don't see any expression of every character hide behind, did Dr.Simon really lies? did Tracy lies? Novella have no struggles to believe in everyone easily? Novella and Candice have a best friend tattoo, whats about it? when i thought the story line is focus on Candice and Novella when everyones dead, Novella killed Candice. could mentioned more about the relationship between Candice and Novella (for example, Candice could have more expression before Novella kills her) , or the background of Novella, how come she start eating herself? and why she eats her heart out at the end??
View MoreI really enjoyed this. I'm a fan of body horror already, so this was right up my alley. The acting started off a bit shaky, but everything fell into place about 10 minutes into the film. Meggie Maddock is a beautiful and talented actress who I hope to see great things from in the future. As crazy as I thought her character, Novella was, her friend really took the cake. I also thought I had Dr. Simon figured out, but that threw me for a loop as well. This film had some really intense moments throughout and her self cannibalism scenes were extremely cringe-worthy. Great film over all and the ending was just insane.
