Excellent adaptation.
At first rather annoying in its heavy emphasis on reenactments, this movie ultimately proves fascinating, simply because the complicated, highly dramatic tale it tells still almost defies belief.
View MoreThere are moments in this movie where the great movie it could've been peek out... They're fleeting, here, but they're worth savoring, and they happen often enough to make it worth your while.
View MoreThrough painfully honest and emotional moments, the movie becomes irresistibly relatable
View MoreIt is a great shame that this series was not promoted internationally with the same vigour as PIPPI LONG STOCKING. Both the TV series and the two movies are exquisite examples of Swedish TV/film craft at it's very best. The story lines, the cast and the set designs all conspired to create a quality product that has stood the test of time extremely well. I don't think they would even begin to know how to make something as good as this these days. Nor is it all down to the size of the budget. The quality of writing clearly played an important role in how the story translated onto the screen. The only comparable UK series I can recall is CATWEAZLE from the early 1970s.
