Best movie ever!

Teddie Blake

The movie turns out to be a little better than the average. Starting from a romantic formula often seen in the cinema, it ends in the most predictable (and somewhat bland) way.

It really made me laugh, but for some moments I was tearing up because I could relate so much.

The joyful confection is coated in a sparkly gloss, bright enough to gleam from the darkest, most cynical corners.

It's a disappointing and clichéd movie that uses the name of Elisabeth Bathory to call attention, but completely fails about the true historic essence of that sadistic woman which lived in Royal Hungary in the beginning of the XVII century.Of course that when I decided to watch this movie I wasn't expecting a documentary or even a historic movie about Elisabeth Bathory, even because it's set in present times, but I wasn't expecting such lame pseudo-detective plot either! Elisabeth Bathory is not "Catherine Tramell" from BASIC INSTINCT! But at many parts of the movie I thought I was watching some cheap imitation of BASIC INSTINCT instead of some story related to the Bathory legend! Another lousy imitation is done from the movie EYES WIDE SHUT, when in this fantastic film occurs the weird/bizarre party. ETERNAL cheaply imitates that too! This film is really just a mixing of other movies' imitations, distrustful description of Elisabeth Bathory's tale, bad acting and, to culminate, the "great" plot of some 80's bad Hollywood cop action movie! Even the supposed erotic scenes were disappointing! The premise of creating a story related to a "21th century's Elisabeth Bathory" was quite good, and it was what called my attention, but the way this movie was done was truly bad! If you want to watch a better movie related to Elizabeth Bathory myth, search for Walerian Borowczyk's CONTES IMMORAUX (1974). At least this one is more accurate!

Honestly, this movie had such beautiful actors and actresses. They are actually, generally quite talented. There are a couple of exceptions like some bit parts, but generally pretty good. The BEST part of the movie was the camera work. Fantastic shots of Montreal, a mansion, Venice and more. Scenes that could have been done in simple, affordable locations were instead done with extravagant, gorgeous vistas. From the Italian countryside to a great view overlooking Montreal to lavish mansions and palaces. It lacked some details to fill some smaller plot holes but blockbuster films have faired far worse. In conclusion, this film is just sexy. More than just physically sexy, but in the views, the actresses, the intrigue of the characters. There is subtlety that carries itself through out the movie and motifs that fade away only to return to play a role later. All in all, the best erotic thriller I have yet viewed. As a thriller on its own, still pretty good.

Is she in another films? Anyone know anything about her? She is the most gorgeous of the gorgeous in this film...too bad her part was so small in this film, I would have liked to have seen more of her. I love French girls! I have watched this movie a few times now and although it is not a masterpiece by far, it is entertaining. I suggest you go out and rent this movie. Anyone caring to share on the above, please do so.I would love to meet some of the cast some day.So cute, that Renaud's secretary....Agree?

I liked it, and agree it could be done much better. It is like all the elements are 'there' and it needs a good polish and smoothing of the rough spots. For the trivia buffs there is apparently an opera based on the same source material (see: http://bathory.org/erzstale.html) There may be other material out there. Returning to the film, the DVD 'Extras' lead me to believe there were modifications to the plot and some interesting edits post production. Some scenes contain a complete "jump" which caught me out initially.I think it deserves a 7 for originality, and not boring us with the lore -- It could have been a lot better.
