one of my absolute favorites!
I am only giving this movie a 1 for the great cast, though I can't imagine what any of them were thinking. This movie was horrible
View MoreAfter playing with our expectations, this turns out to be a very different sort of film.
View MoreThis is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.
View MoreA quite bizarre and uneven movie that whilst not all bad is certainly massively overrated on this site. The main character of Pauline is terribly played by someone who has clearly never been awkward or an outcast, it's a distracting, unbelievable pantomime of gurning and over the top nihilism. This could and should have been reigned in and allowed to simmer and explode. Others who review this film seem to rate this performance as something special but it's not, it's actually the films weakest part. The characters behaviour would have been addressed and confronted a long time ago but is seemingly ignored by every oblivious idiot until far too late. This is made more apparent by the performance of the rest of the cast which is downplayed and understated, whilst this may be a conscious decision it certainly wasn't a good one. It removes all art from the movie and leaves it clearly in the trash pile. Not a bad thing for a film of this type but the film wants you to believe that there's more here. There's not.The film itself is well shot, it looks and feels expensive, which is testament to the filmmakers. It may have been better served without this level of gloss but it's impressive. Again this may have been a conscious decision, but this film is trash and instead of revelling in that it tries to move away from it. It has nothing to say and an unbelievable plot and characters yet it portrays itself as something deeper. Had Pauline played people off against each other instead of being so openly dramatic it could have added a level of intrigue into the proceedings. Instead we get a couple of hours a teenage Bart Simpson staring through her oh so greasy hair.
View MoreFirst off, this is not a horror movie by any reasonable definition of the genre. It's clearly heavily inspired by Ginger Snaps but is a far inferior movie. The lead character repeatedly doing random gross things just to try to shock the audience is juvenile. Even ignoring the little disgusting things she does, I can't remember another movie with a more unlikable lead character than this one. Just an awful human being to everyone around her. Yet somehow it's clear the director expects us to sympathize with her. As much of a ridiculous caricature as Tracy Lords' character is, she comes off as much more sympathetic despite the director's intentions. Same thing in her scenes with John Waters, who is one of a number of silly cameos. Hey, it's John Waters playing a priest, how ironic! Look, Malcolm McDowell! That's Ray Wise! It's that guy from Criminal Minds! They just draw attention to themselves and take you out of the movie. Repeated overly long dream sequences also get old quickly. For some reason I kept watching this all the way to the end, which turned out to be another ridiculous attempt to shock the audience, but it had no impact, because I didn't care by that point.
View MoreThis movie is drawn-out and ends with the character trying to perform surgery without the proper equipment. Cut my sister open with a kitchen knife? Sure, why not. May as well have the entire thing littered with her sexual fantasies about dead bodies that are somehow animated, too. Socially awkward girl turned into a killer because she wants to help her sister. Alright then. Explain how she didn't get any diseases from licking that roadkill bird blood too while you're at it. Honestly if I could give it less than one star, I would. I felt like I just wasted an hour and a half of my life watching Bob get whined at for trying to be supportive. The only good parts of this movie were when the sex ed teacher had to read out awkward questions. Don't waste your time. There's more gore in My Little Pony.
View MoreAnnaLynne McCord stars as Pauline, a disturbed high school misfit who has delusions of becoming a surgeon. Dominated by her over bearing mother, Pauline battles with her sanity and unhealthy obsessions.Superb, a teen based horror that's pungent with everything from necrophilia, growing pains, peer pressure, sexual anxiety, parental strife, mental illness and horror – real horror. Writer/director Richard Bates Junior does a brilliant job of filling an 80 minute movie with so many thematic smarts but never once over egging his bloody pudding. He gets excellent performances out of McCord and Traci Lords (as Pauline's mother), whilst the blending of surreal imagery via Pauline's dreams and the real world awkwardness – with some dry humour in the mix too – produces a picture that is in equal parts oddball and emotionally shattering. When Dead Ringers collides with Ginger Snaps, Excision will stay with you for days afterwards. 9/10
