Yorkshire writer Kate finds out her biological clock is ticking down the same day that her husband leaves her. To get over the financial crisis this creates she takes in car-dealer Dave. He's homeless as Kate's husband has moved in with his wife. This leaves the problem of how to get promptly pregnant. Surely not with increasingly interesting Dave. They can't even agree on a baby's name - he thinks Fanny is silly and she finds Elvis, well, inconceivable.

Don't listen to the negative reviews

There are moments that feel comical, some horrific, and some downright inspiring but the tonal shifts hardly matter as the end results come to a film that's perfect for this time.

There's a more than satisfactory amount of boom-boom in the movie's trim running time.

This is a feel good movie or at least that's what I think it's trying to be, unfortunately it has a few things that keeps getting in the way. Firstly Kerry Fox gives one of the most uneven performances I've seen in a long time and the script also plays it's part in not always finding the right tone. I hate to say it being a huge fan of Kay Mellor's previous work but maybe another director with more experience in making films would have known how to pull it altogether to make it a smoother ride. There is still many things to enjoy not least the always reliable Ray Winstone and Ben Daniels is also more good than bad. At least it does look great especially in those country scenes and the soundtrack with Catatonia's Cerys Matthews contributing some songs is pretty good. It's just a shame that there were very few genuine laughs and the characters weren't believable enough to ever move you. (5/10)

Absolutely marvelous film. I visited Hebden Bridge and saw some of the film locations, beautiful! Lovely town and people.Special mentioning about Ray Winstones role. I think he did a great job and as he has been called before "Sex on legs.." I agree. The story is very romantic, and for someone like me who likes English scenery and accents this is very interesting discovery. This was the reason for me to choose Hebden Bridge as my holiday destination and it was a perfect choice. Jennifer Saunders has a great role as well. Also few gay aspects are very typical for Hebden "Town of lesbians" Bridge. Worth seeing. I recommend!

This is a story about the relationship between an unlikely couple thrown together when their respective partners embark on an affair. Kerry Fox plays the part of a struggling romantic novelist who has to take in Ray Winstone, who plays a flash, but down on his luck car salesman, as a lodger, to make ends meet when her husband deserts her. The film has some brilliant moments of comedy, and a great supporting cast. Ben Daniels shines in his part as a gay actor who tries to be a matchmaker for Fox. This was much more fun than Notting Hill and had the extra bonus of some good earthy sex scenes!

A delightful romantic comedy in which two people are forced together when their loved-ones elope together. The unlikely partnership of Ray Winstone (beer drinking lad) and Kerry Fox (gentle writer) is perfect - and the film is fast and witty. Great supporting roles from her gay flat mate and his bank-manager boyfriend.
