Undescribable Perfection

When a movie has you begging for it to end not even half way through it's pure crap. We've all seen this movie and this characters millions of times, nothing new in it. Don't waste your time.

Well, I do like the Coen brothers, P.T. Anderson, Stanley Kubrick, and other "critically acclaimed" stuff but I must say that I really get a good laugh out of these cheesy, ghetto Friday movies. I love the humour in these movies, it's like the nasty stuff we lay on each other as mates here. The scenes that make me laugh the most are the ones with Miss Pearly. She has to be one of the funniest characters in the series so far. Also her son Damen, another new character, is very funny, especially when he is watching Tupac on the television, or when he is being introduced to people at the party. The brothers Willie and Leroy are even better in this one than in Next Friday, although I did miss Suga. Day-Day has some extremely funny lines, as he did in the previous movie, and I find his character much more naturally acted than the Smokey character in the first movie. The only problem with this movie and the other sequel is that the plot and character development is not as good as in the first movie, even though there are some excellent lines. The DVD is well worth getting for its extras, such as the deleted scenes and the Pork Report.

Highly profane sequel finds Craig and his cousin Day-Day back in the hood where they've finally moved out of their parent's house into their own bachelor pad. They work as security guards at a local mall, and use their job expertise to try and lead their own investigation after a crook disguised as Santa Claus robs their apartment and the police don't seem very willing to help. Even worse, their landlord despises them and her fearsome son (a hardened ex-con), will make them pay dearly if they don't produce the rent money in time. Cast has energy, but they're helpless against a weak story, very few laughs, and excessive vulgarity. *½

It won't be a classic like "Citizen Kane", nor does it have the gravitas of "Do the Right Thing" or "Bamboozled", but "Friday After Next" will be remembered as a hilarious insider's view of trials and tribulations of Craig and Day Day in South Central LA during Christmas. The language and jokes are funny but raw and definitely meant for adult audiences (this isn't a Christmas flick for the kids). However, the honest humor and authentic emotions make you feel like a fly on wall of Moley's donut shop. With all do respect to Raboy and Ice Cube, it seem like there's no script or director. This is meant strictly as a complement. Were these guy's making this stuff on the spot — "strictly for municipal uses only" and "Do you hear me now? Do you hear me now? If you have an open mind and enjoy a good laugh, you'll love Friday After Next.
