Very Cool!!!
This is How Movies Should Be Made
Sadly Over-hyped
Actress is magnificent and exudes a hypnotic screen presence in this affecting drama.
View MorePriyadarshan's name was synomonous with dramatic films like Gardish, Virasat and then he turned a new leaf with Hera Pheri and kept doing comedies, most remakes of his Malyalam hits. This film is a remake of an English comedy Boeing Boeing Akshay was mostly criticised as an actor in 90s and he was pathetic in comedy in Mr & Mrs Khiladi and some more films, In Hera Pheri he was quite good but with Khakee suddenly his comic bone started getting noticed, after that Mujhse Shaadi Karoge where he stole the show, Garam Masala was his first solo comedy role though he shared screen space with John too. The film however has no main plot, no logic, no sense yet it's hilarious in many places, though at times it resorts to complete nonsense just to bring laughs like Akshay-John rivalry which suddenly is forgotten in second half. The film starts off on an ordinary note but some scenes are funny like John's promotion, Akshay and John's scene in the hotel and later on some scenes in the house though one does question, How come all the girls cant even hear sounds? But that is like asking too much from such a film. There are some scenes which are really funny like how Akshay hides from all three girlfriends and till the end it keeps you laughing though it does drag at places, there is no proper continuity too some things happen too sudden too and look contrived, The preclimax is hilarious but the ending is abrupt.Direction by Priyadarshan is not at his best but good in several portionsMusic by Pritam is good but the songs many times do seem forced, Dil Samdundar is good but wrongly placed, while Kiss Me Baby is good, it was added in between later after the success of the film, Falak Dekhun is a superb romantic number by Sonu Nigam, Ada is goodAkshay Kumar's deadpan humour, his expressions, his dialogue delivery are simply spot on, he carries off most ridiculous situations with flair, However at times for some reason he laughs out loud but yet this is one of his best perf John Abraham tries hard to fit in the comic set up, this was his first comic role but he doesn't seem fit, he struggles a lot in his delivery Paresh Rawal is really superb with his deadpan act, sadly later in his career he became loud and theatrical and repetitive, but here he is simply amazing. Rajpal Yadav is not given too much importance, he is funny at times Manoj Joshi is good, Asrani is okay Amongst girls, Daisy, Neetu Chandra and Nargis are okay for their debuts, Only Neetu was seen or heard later rest vanished Neetu too could hardly make a mark Rimii Sen has a small role she is as usual
View Morethis is one of the funniest Indian comedy film after Hera Pheri in 2000.directed by same director of Hera Pheri Priyadarshan's Garam Masala is full of entertainment.Hot Spice is about 2 friends who work for a magazine company as photographers one of them Sam gets promoted & goes to USA & second one Mac,s luck changes & he lives a cool life & dating 3 girls at once. but when SAM comes back things go out of control & fun starts. The Cast:Akshay Kumar,John Abraham,Rajpal Yadav,Rimi Sen,Asrani,Paresh Rawal,Neha Dhupia,Nargis Bagheri,Neetu Chandra & Daisy Bhopana everyone was amazing in there performance.if this film came out in 90s i don't know what would the people think but it came at the right time i think and its beautifully shot on great locationsthe soundtrack is superb all the songs including kiss me baby the chemistry of actors is so awesome as they do funny things,a lot of people have been asking where was this filmed so let me tell this was filmed in India and Mauritius,it is totally fun to watch for me this film is gold comedy it came in 2005 now so many years have passed and i am still hooked on to it specially the dialogs are Mindblowing. My Rating For Garam Masala(Hot Spice) 2005 Is 10/10.A Must See Film.
View MoreDo not waste your time with this movie. This is a total thrash in terms of acting, directing, sound editing, soundtrack... There was such a waste of performance by some of the very good actors. The movie does not do justice to Paresh Rawal who is perhaps one of the most talented actors in Bollywood. Akshay Kumar who is also an emerging star did quite a poor job. John Abraham, what is wrong with him? Is that what you call acting? I mean he should thank God that he has a pretty face otherwise he'd be winning Razzie awards in India if there were any such awards in Bollywood. Asrani a great talent, but overdoes his bit as before.Screenplay which was not to mention a rip-off from the 1965's Boeing Boeing was quite badly framed. First of all, people in Bollywood just can't make something original. On top of that they don't even know how to copy well. The jokes in the movie were so overdone, it was getting painful to sit through them. Priyadarshan may be a star in the south, but he's just not fit to make a decent Hindi movie. The sound editing is amazingly crappy. I can go on and on this matter, but the bottom-line is that Bollywood should be shameful of making such a film. The worst part is that some people seemed to love this movie. What is wrong with you guys? This is the reason why Bollywood is where it is. Did you know that Bollywood makes more movies than Hollywood every year, however, most of the movies are unheard of abroad, because of movies like this one. I am an Indian and I am utterly shameful of Bollywood for producing this piece of thrash. Movies like Dil Chahta Hai and Lagaan were just terrific. They are world class films which are timeless... among the best of this decade. Garam Masala, however, is perhaps one of the worst of this century. Period.I give it a 1 out of 10.
View Moreon the contrary to the person listed above me i felt that this movie was really funny particularly in the scenes were there is a lot of mix up. i don't want to give the plot and the storyline away to the people that haven't watched it yet but i will say that Paresh Rawal does not have an extensive role such as past Priyadarshan movies, for example, Hera Pheri and Hungama. Paresh Rawal does an amazing part in the little role given to him, John Abraham does equally well, Akshay Kumar has proved that he is no less in this movie like he had from Waqt and almost all his movies after Andaaz. Even though all three heroins in this movie were at a debut they did a pretty good job of acting particularly Nargis who is very good looking and hot. i would say that if you liked Hungama or Hera Pheri this movie is a must watch.
