Purely Joyful Movie!
The performances transcend the film's tropes, grounding it in characters that feel more complete than this subgenre often produces.
View MoreGreat example of an old-fashioned, pure-at-heart escapist event movie that doesn't pretend to be anything that it's not and has boat loads of fun being its own ludicrous self.
View MoreThe thing I enjoyed most about the film is the fact that it doesn't shy away from being a super-sized-cliche;
View MoreI decided to write this review because I felt it's unfair for the movie from the negative comments and ratings it had.First off, as other commenters said, this is a romantic comedy movie, I think this movie served this concept in a very well manner.The idea is new, nicely presented, well written and directed. It comes to many young men, or middle age men to be like the main character in the movie (Conner meed) Matthew McConaughey, to have many womens around, having only FUN with them, be successful and so on. and that is for sure what the new generation dreams of!, However this movie shows the consequences of such a life in a funny, simple and well presented way. It shows how important to have a constant partner with committed and respectful relationship, not only touch and go!I like the story plot, the scenario and even the visual effects are really good and serves the movie.Good work for all characters in the movie and the directing was very very good.
View MoreYou know what? I really liked this movie. Even though I pretty much despise and detest Matthew McConaughey, I still had a really fun time with this movie. That also goes for Jennifer Garner, I don't like her much either. Emma Stone is so funny in this movie, she just steals the show. She makes you think that you're watching a comedy, as apposed to a romantic comedy, which it apparently is. Don't get me wrong, I really like the romantic side of this movie. The actors are funny and very talented.This movie is about a boy and girl, who fell in love, but then fell out of love. The whole movie is based around Connor and Jenny's relationship. They were best friends when they were kids, then they got together during their teen years, and then a few years later, rekindled and hooked up. But because Connor was afraid of commitment, he left her in her bed, alone. They obviously didn't stay together. Now, a few years later, at Connor's brother's wedding, we see the pair meet once again. Connor doesn't know how to fix it, and when he goes up to his room he meets the Ghost Of Girlfriends Past. This ghost takes Connor on a spiritual journey to see how his life should be, instead of what it is. The movie ends with Connor and Jenny getting back together, which is a predictable ending, but an ending I wanted to see.Overall, I give this movie an 8 out of 10.
View MoreConnor Mead (Matthew McConaughey) is a successful fashion photographer and a womanizer. Jenny Perotti (Jennifer Garner) is his childhood sweetheart, the one that got away. He goes to his younger brother Paul's (Breckin Meyer) wedding to convince him the error of his way. The ghost of his uncle Wayne (Michael Douglas) comes to renounce all his chauvinistic ways, and tells him that three ghosts are coming to visit him that night.So this is a slightly different version of A Christmas Carol. It's a pretty good adaptation idea. I just don't find most of it funny. Lacey Chabert tries her darndest to be comic relief. That's right. Lacey Chabert is the funniest one here. Matthew McConaughey and Jennifer Garner make for a couple of good likable leads. In theory they could make a good rom-com out of this. But the execution is lacking. For them to have a chance at a good rom-com, they have to be much funnier.
View MoreA lothario who can get any woman he wants is visited a la 'Christmas Carol' by ghostly figures of old girl friends and his uncle who taught him everything he knows. Of course he does not like what he sees, especially his 'meant to be girl from the age of 14,' whose heart he has broken. Guess what - he repents after that night. Along the way there is comedy - a truly excruciating performance from Matthew Maconaughey, a neat cameo from Michael Douglas, and a subdued thesping from Jennifer Garner as 'Tiny Tim.' There are some good lines, some delicate pokes at the reality behind romantic, so called strong, women for blokes to guffaw at, but it is not a work of genius or up there with the best rom coms. And for those grotesque US women critics who demand that Jennifer Garner's character becomes strong and gives the lothario what for - remember it is 'Christmas Carol' not 'The female Eunuch!!!'
