A different way of telling a story
This is a tender, generous movie that likes its characters and presents them as real people, full of flaws and strengths.
View Moren my opinion it was a great movie with some interesting elements, even though having some plot holes and the ending probably was just too messy and crammed together, but still fun to watch and not your casual movie that is similar to all other ones.
View MoreAmazing worth wacthing. So good. Biased but well made with many good points.
View MoreWell, I did not expect it to be this good, even after knowing it was praised by many. From the writer, director of 'World's Greatest Dad'. Another black comedy and this even better. About an ordinary middle aged divorcée who hates everything around him, but could not do anything about it. One day when he got fired from his job, followed by discovering he has a tumor, he thinks to put an end his life right away. But then decides to do cleanup the society before his time comes up. Hence begins the path of violence, later a young woman joins him and how long it all goes was briefed.Seems very familiar, but still worked so good. It's not your 'Bonnie and Clyde' or 'Pretty Poison'. In fact, you can drag as many titles as you can, but still it is quite simple and entertaining. Obviously predictable, including the main twist and several scenes, but the rhythm of the narration was great, keeps us hooked to it for the way it was filmed. It's not about the moral science. It is pretty much a confused or misunderstood situation based theme, especially the conclusion clears out that. So if you don't care anything about those things, particularly in a film, then it is for you.Unfamiliar faces, but they both in the lead were excellent. The same film with some popular stars would have made a better headline and collection. Not seen quite a nice B film like this in the recent time. I got what I wanted from a film. Especially for a small film like this its exemption in a few areas due to the tight budget, but this film did not have any trouble, just amazing. Yeah, a well made film, from writing to direction, performances, this is a decent hidden gem of its kind.7/10
View MoreThis black, black comedy hits home right from the start and shows what a cruel and uncaring and callous world this has become, mainly through the mindless drivel shown on t.v. Joel Murray is very good in the main role as a dying man who just wants people to be nice and respectful to others. Film is similar in theme to " Falling Down" but is even better.Director Bobcat Goldthwait shows he is better behind the camera than he is in front of it. Manages some rather moving and touching moments among the pathos and it makes you think at times. Film loses it's way a little in the later stages but it does enough to make it a good film, not for all tastes though.
View MoreI recently came across this movie and I was not expecting this. God Bless America is a movie filled with dark humor and speaks nothing but the truth about the human race's modern day principles especially the culture now in America. You might think for a second that it is an action film or a suspense thriller because of all the shooting but it is just basically a dark comedy catered for audiences that are open to the issues of this world's is facing. The film feels so surreal yet still focuses on its main goal: to blatantly share a satirical approach on how America is a total crap right now. The scoring throughout the film may be one of the best things that happened to this film and also, the songs picked for the movie. The comical tune blended with gory actions scenes are the highlights the film. The ending captivated me. I know Frank has his own shortcomings as a person drowning with self-pity. But despite it, Joel Murray gave Frank's character justice for a subtle and genuine performance for the role. You can literally see Bobcat Goldthwait's frustrations about the problem with reality shows, bigots, misogynists, and hypocritical Christians. Some may find God Bless America just a normal film or even a worse film, but it is a must watch because you might be surprised on how true the movie's claim and stand is.
View MoreGod Bless America is a violent black comedy mixed with a satire of modern-day life in America, directed and written by that annoyingly squeaky-voiced guy from the POLICE ACADEMY films, no less. While this wasn't perhaps as good as I was hoping for - it's a little too crude, and perhaps not as clever as it thinks it is - it's hard to resist a film that successfully lampoons the current state of America (and the western world in general). It also feels very similar to the superhero spoof, SUPER.Joel Murray gives a sympathetic turn as a guy who's reached the end of his tether, although he's no Michael Douglas in FALLING DOWN. I did like Tara Lynne Barr's fresh-faced role as the girl who ends up joining with him. There's a lot of extreme violence here, but it's less impressive than you'd expect and becomes a little repetitive. The put-downs aimed at various celebrity figures and institutions and the various references for genre fans are far better and keep the film moving along until the inevitable - and somewhat predictable - climax.
