one of my absolute favorites!
The film makes a home in your brain and the only cure is to see it again.

I recently bought this one because i saw a few gory scenes online, and thought hey let's give it a try. Bad idea, Heartstopper is a mediocre slasher about a nut-job serial killer who comes back to life after being electrocuted like we've already seen in "Wes craven's Shocker" (which is a far more superior slasher movie). He starts a bloodbath in the hospital in which he awakened by ripping the hearts out of anyone who gets in his way, we also have a suicidal teenage girl who tried to get run over after being sick of getting bullied by a bunch of b*tches, she gets saved by the Sheriff (Good old Robert Englund) who takes her to the hospital. He's also responsible for getting the killer in jail so it's no wonder the killer comes after him too, i wonder if Robert just took the role for the cash (Nothing disrespectful because i'm a fan of Robert) since there's absolutely nothing memorable about this flick. The girl also meets a wounded school mate of hers at the hospital which sticks by her side the whole movie long, the only good point about this movie are the gory heart removal scenes. Except for that there's nothing explicit or whatsoever, just people getting chased. I also think James Binkley was a case of miscasting as the killer, he tried and he impresses the audience during the chase scenes. Trying to be frightening, but i didn't buy it. They would have been better off hiring someone like Kane Hodder, the grand finale was kinda ridiculous and absolutely unrealistic. The could have come up with something better, anyway watch the movie if you like but don't say you were warned.
View MoreHeartstopper starts late one stormy night as convicted serial killer Jonathan Chambers (James Binkley) is executed in the electric chair, he is pronounced dead & taken to a nearby hospital to undergo an autopsy. However en-route Sheriff Berger (Robert Englund) runs into a suicidal teenager named Sara Wexler (Meredith Henderson) crouched in the middle of the road, she is put in the ambulance along with Chambers dead body & taken to the hospital. Sara is seen to & Chambers body is taken to be autopsied, however Chambers isn't dead & comes back to life. He needs to change bodies & Sara is it, he stalks the corridors of the hospital looking for her & ripping out the heart of anyone who gets in his way...This Canadian production was directed by Bob Keen & one has to say that Heartstopper isn't the most enjoyable was to spend 85 minutes. The script by Vlady Pildysh & Warren P. Sonoda takes itself very seriously & seems to have taken it's inspiration from Wes Craven's Shocker (1989) & House III: The Horror Show (1989) with it's evil deranged killer back from the electric chair type plot, in fact when I think about it there hasn't been an evil deranged killer back from the electric chair type horror film for quite a while which is understandable really. Here in Heartstopper no explanation is given as to why or how Jonathan Chambers survived & came back from the dead, none. Sure there's some sort of living tattoo on his arm & he has some sort of magical pendant around his neck but no concrete explanation is given at any point. Once Chambers comes back to life Heartstopper goes into standard clichéd & predictable teen slasher mode as the rest of the film is spent running around the darkest hospital in film history with Sara & some black dude trying to survive, at no point does anyone suggest they should try to phone anyone which is odd. When the lights go out why don't the generators come on? Why is it so hard to find a way out? Can't they just open a window & climb out or something? One character remarks whether it's a hospital or a prison which is a very good point, I can't believe there is not one single exit or window they could have left through. The character's aren't great, the main teenage leads are annoying & Chambers as a villain is awful as he spouts some really bad dialogue which I suspect was meant to be scary & meaningful but ends up sounding terrible, he just has no on screen menace at all.Director Keen started off in the horror film biz as a special effects make-up man working on films such as Krull (1983), Lifeforce (1985), Highlander (1986), Hellraiser (1987), Waxwork (1988), Candyman (1992), Event Horizon (1997) & Dog Soldiers (2002) amongst others & has more recently turned his attention to directing. No offence Bob but stick to what your good at & directing isn't one of them. Heartstopper is set in probably the darkest & most underpopulated hospital in history, there's about six doctors & six patients! There is a fair amount of gore which saves Heartstopper from being a complete dud, there are the expected ripped out hearts, someones stomach & chest are torn open, there's scalpels in eyeballs & slashed throats, there's mutilated bodies & corpses with their faces torn off & there's plenty of blood splatter too. I wouldn't say Heartstopper is scary, in fact because of the distinct lack of lighting it becomes very frustrating to watch. There's an annoying scene near the start where the doctor is about to perform the autopsy on Chambers body & ask's for the lights to be turned out! I have never performed an autopsy myself but I would imagine being able to see & having the lights on was a basic requirement!According to the IMDb Heartstopper had a budget of about $3,000,000 which I must say does sound quite a lot for what actually ended up on screen, there's nothing here which stands out although it is well made with good special effects. Shot in Ontario in Canada. The acting isn't great, it's alright but not great. Mr cameo himself Robert Englund makes yet another smallish appearance in a cheap horror flick, he's made a career out of it hasn't he?Heartstopper is an OK teen slasher, it only lasts for 80 odd minutes so at least it's short & there's a fair amount of pleasing gore but a silly script that has lots of loose ends & an annoying location means this is average at best. Heartstopper isn't the worst slasher out there but it's far from the best, you can do better if you try.
View MoreI'm a sucker for gross-out splatter flicks, or over-the-top horror of any kind, so I end up watching a lot movies I later wish I hadn't wasted the time on. Such a movie is Heartstopper. An over-the-hill Robert Englund heads the rest of the no-name cast, playing a sheriff who watches a serial killer fry in the chair. Englund sends him to a hospital morgue where the killer, possessed of some kinda demonic power, comes back to life with an urge to rip out hearts. Englund is killed by minute 30 or so in the film, but he only has about 10 minutes face time with the viewer. I guess he made his money and left. There is absolutely no plot, no drama and no thrills in this flick, not to mention zero acting, and we are subjected to a series of about 6 or 7 heart ripping scenes for about 85 minutes. If this is enough to make you want to watch this movie, have at it.
View MoreAt first glance you see the name Robert England and there is a glimmer of hope! This movie does make your heart beat, but will you go flat line? Will you need a sexy young nurse to resuscitate you? If your a horror movie enthusiast, grab your cell phone and tell some friends to come over! Make sure they bring their straight jackets!Yes! Many will call this a cheesy horror movie flick! One thing you should know before you start flogging tomatoes at your TV screen, is that you get to see Robert England! There have been rumors of a Freddy Krueger come back, but it has not surfaced to the big screen. When the Freddy Krueger movies came out, I was just a teen, and the first one scared the abyss out of me! The filming in this movie was well done, and the acting was average, but if you like a lot of blood, the movie does deliver. The tagline for the movie is: Each beat may be your last... In the movie's defense, I will say it is better than most of the direct to DVD videos on the market. It is hard to have your expectations met easily, with a B flick! I was just happy to see Robert England, since he is a horror movie icon from my teenage years! Freddy Krueger did leave a nice deep gashing wound on our gray matter with his razor sharp blades!I have to agree with other comments online, that the plot is hurting and bleeding from the heart! Again, the movie is worth it just to see Robert England! Anything with him in it will be a collectible! Good or Bad! The movie just keeps moving at a fast pace in most sequences, and the girl who plays the main character is attractive. Sara Wexler(Meredith Henderson) plays a teenager who was not going to make it through high school. Incidentally, Meredith Henderson is from Canada and I have noticed some very hot women, starring in horror movies from Canada! The pressure of her classmates calling her names, nearly lead to a successful suicide attempt, which opened the doors for Mr. Satanic Serial-Killer(James Binkley) to choose his sexy young victim. What he called his vessel, because his body needed a new one fast! I cannot help it! I have to see at least one hot girl in a horror movie, because it actually helps me make it through the boring parts, to the next scene! Not to bring you back to any bad memories, but I am sure your reading this, and can recall some horrific teen experience. Maybe a bad relationship, demanding teacher, over protective parent, friends getting killed in an accident, and remember riding your bike while a rabid dog is chasing you! I can see the foam building around the lips of the demon dog now! Hence, the one good point of this heart stopping horror flick, is those lovely, unforgettable teenage years! My dad always said if you live through your teenage years, your lucky!Chambers(James Binkley) plays a good psychopath role and he reminds me of a sick and twisted Vin Diesel, recovering from rehab. He does present a powerful masculine deep voice and is voracious with his killing spree. When you watch this movie, you will notice he does a good job for a B movie. This is the first movie, where I have seen so many bloody hearts, that I lost count! If you love seeing someone with a cool tattoo, strong muscular build, stick his hand like a spear, into a persons chest and rip out a fresh pumping, blood spurting heart, then you have a winner! This movie really does get to the heart of the matter.Does this movie have its finger on the kill switch? I will let you be the judge of that! I know there is some soul out there, lurking in the deep shadows of the night, waiting, yes, waiting for the ultimate horror movie, the one that will touch you as Freddy Krueger first did and leave you in the tender arms of Michael Myers of Halloween. In the mean time, we take them as they come. I had a mortician once tell me, that there is a lot of stiff competition out there! The horror directors need to stand up, take Viagra and rise to the occasion for a plot, that kills us!
