That was an excellent one.

It's no definitive masterpiece but it's damn close.

TrueHello

Fun premise, good actors, bad writing. This film seemed to have potential at the beginning but it quickly devolves into a trite action film. Ultimately it's very boring.

I didn’t really have many expectations going into the movie (good or bad), but I actually really enjoyed it. I really liked the characters and the banter between them.

Coming of age films are a dime a dozen, and what it really comes down to is the strength of the young actor or actress. The way it usually works out is that the better they are, the better the film is, and when it comes to Hellion, casting was dead on, but there was also something else that made this one special. After losing his mother, Jacob Wilson (Josh Wiggins) started acting out. Maybe his fathers transformation into a full blown alcoholic had something to do with it, or maybe it's the fact that he's left to be the adult and take care of his little brother that's the problem, but whatever the case it gets a whole lot worse. After stupid teenaged behavior causes his younger brother to be taken away and placed with his aunt, Jacob has to become the adult and convince his father to clean up in order to bring his little brother home, a herculean task, when you consider the fact that Jacob himself is still a wreck. The young star of the film, newcomer Josh Wiggins is absolutely terrific, outshining multiple award winning actors and actresses in this film, but he's not the only difference here. Hellion takes on the dark southern poverty stricken surreal feeling of other similar films that have become extremely popular in recent years. Similar to Winter's Bone, Joe, and Mud, there is an aspect to this film that is methodical and real. It's almost like you aren't watching a movie, you're just seeing real life unfold in front of your eyes. This combined with an extraordinary young talent made this extremely enjoyable to watch. Everything was very raw, emotional, and just real, a credit to both the writer, director, and cast involved in Hellion. This style is fairly new in cinema and has really defined the 2010s era, to see it combined with something that was so relate-able made for a very special film.

First of all let me start by saying that I saw this movie at a theater downtown, so I was not at SXSW or Sundance, so I may have not had the same experience as others. But let me tell you this, this is fantastic. I loved every second of this film. it was exhilarating, emotional , and unpredictable. I swear, this movie will make you go through the most emotional ride you've been on all year. And the performance's are riveting. Aaron Paul, fresh off of breaking bad fame is absolutely excellent, his performance had so much emotion that, at points, made me tear up. And newcomer Josh Wiggins did a phenomenal job because he had a performance that felt so real and was at times heartbreaking to watch. And Juliette Lewis was great in her role as well. But the one thing that I like the most about this was the directing by Kat Candler, as she gave this movie a good sense of grit to it, and that's why I give this movie a 10/10. so that's my review of hellion!! now if you want to check out my review later today go to YouTube and look up ghostface3000100

*****Hint hint****** A little spoiler but it won't wreck the movie***I thought this movie was awesome, it's a kinda movie that you want to watch with your dad and brother because it shows how close you need to be with them. I was really blown away by this movie, the casting was pretty good too, Overall a movie you will want to watch again and share with your friends. The story seemed so real, like I watched it online so I could have looked up if it was a true story but I just watched it and by the end I was sure it was. The one thing that drew me away was the poster, I know the boy did motocross but the poster could have been better, I mean that really doesn't matter because the movie was awesome. I would and will watch this later for sure!

A heartfelt story delivered in a subtle and effective way reminiscent of David Gordon Green's, JOE, and Jeff Nichols', MUD (I wasn't surprised to see Jeff's name in the credits). Nicely understated, beautifully shot and with a great breakout performance from Josh Wiggins. Aaron Paul avoids what could otherwise be a clichéd father-gone-wrong with a beautifully underplayed performance. The incomparable Juliette Lewis brings a vulnerability to one of the least fragile characters she's ever played and overall HELLION breathes easily throughout its ebbs and flows.Kat Candler did a great job in the director's chair and Aaron Paul should be commended for his support of emerging filmmakers and independent film.
