Memorable, crazy movie
This is a gorgeous movie made by a gorgeous spirit.
View MoreYes, absolutely, there is fun to be had, as well as many, many things to go boom, all amid an atmospheric urban jungle.
View MoreOne of the film's great tricks is that, for a time, you think it will go down a rabbit hole of unrealistic glorification.
View MoreI don't understand why this film received so many favorable reviews. It had an original storyline but there was no fascinating development to it. It was entertaining to some degree but a lot of the subplots were underdeveloped. The affair between Dani (the main character's sister) and the Irish guy was interesting enough because of the gap of physical attractiveness between Dani and her husband. It was resolved in a really hasty way though. The wife did not say or do enough to convince me that the husband really wanted to come back to her. The subplots on the whole felt like something a person would watch on TV.I also don't think Lake Bell is that good looking. Her high opinion of her looks showed a bit in how she was trying to make herself look so much prettier than the character Nancy. The character Jamie (Alexandra Holden) was really attractive in my opinion. I did not find it very realistic that a girl like her would play that part. Her character reminded me of an old woman. The ending also seemed rushed as though it needed more time to unfold. It would've been better if Bell allowed more tension and build-up before the end.
View MoreYes, for me, it worked....I loved the odd concept and idea of the film. Honestly, you could possibly say it's not quite polished and clinically comically enough to make a huge impact, but maybe that also adds it own charm as it feels quite human.Lake Bell is just wonderful and watchable and did an amazing job writing such a catchy film and script.I really enjoyed this and would have no qualms in recommending to friends.
View MoreNot at all bad, but not great or memorable. Given her talents and experience, it seems that Bell might have done better with her first feature if she'd made a sketch-driven comedy, and saved a comedy with a serious side for a later outing. As it is, there aren't enough of the funny bits, while more or less everything about the serious side falls flat. The dramatic elements, the depth of the character and writing, the framing and composition, the social satire; they're all pretty slight. The tone shifts back and forth between a sort of pure-laughs comedy (Anchorman etc) and a serious comedy or satire (some Woody Allen, Noah Baumbach etc). The clash inherent in this tone shift undercuts the serious side rather forcefully. If that weren't enough, the serious elements in themselves are pretty sophomoric. However, it is enjoyable and warm-hearted, and Bell shows some chance of a better outing in the future
View Morelake bell is one of the few underrated actresses out there who can do wonders if the script is solid but this time she he writes, directs & starts in this comedy about voice overs in movie trailers.bell's direction is great she keeps it cinematic but the topic she chooses is totally dingy the characters never really develop the chemistry here at all i kept my expectations high for some witty strong dialogs but none of that comes now if we just look at the story lake bell plays a role of carol a girl who wants to be in the voice dubbing business she loves doing voice-overs on film trailers but her father does not approve this a bit.the voice dubbing acts hardly appear for few moments but most of the film is about the dysfunctional family, friends & affairs etc the film went off topic & never made a return to the root subject. The entire cast gets wasted here but Michaela Watkins performance is worth checking out & what the hell were Eva Longoria & Geena Davis doing here making a special appearance as for Lake Bell she is as usual stunning but problem is she really cant give her best here as she does in her other movies.it feels like lake bell really took the burden of directing on herself & forgot to add much variety & fun in her own character as well as the script she created a room for other actors but left herself out.the genre don't seem like comedy at all its more like a drama or a Rom-com as each an every scene gives you that vibe. Overall In A World 2013 is a disappointment without a doubt Lake Bell is a fantastic artist but i really hope her next directorial effort brings the best if she ever picks up the camera again my rating is 3/10.
