One of the best films i have seen
This movie was so-so. It had it's moments, but wasn't the greatest.
View MoreIn other words, this film is a surreal ride.
It really made me laugh, but for some moments I was tearing up because I could relate so much.
View MoreBearing in mind that I do not speak Hindi and I watched this movie purely with subtitles alone, I have to say I really enjoyed it. My husband is a fluent Hindi speaker who watches Indian movies all the time and I have to be brutally honest and say that I think the Bollywood scene is and always has, been lacking any extraordinary talent. To say that Vivek Oberoi is merely mediocre is to say that the majority of Indian actors are terrible! I do not enjoy the melodramatics, fake crying aka wailing and the stereotype that Indian women are all backstabbing bitches so, Kyun! Ho Gaya Na was a breath of fresh air in the respect that it told a unique love story about true love versus arranged marriage which is an aspect of eastern culture that many westerns are curious and sometimes misinformed about. The music was lovely, especially Dheere Dheere which I often have on repeat. Vivek Oberoi did play something of a childish character but I think it is important to understand that he was written to be this person and that immaturity was part of his reasons for not wanting to take the time and effort to fall in love naturally. There were aspects of the plot that lacked, of course, such as the orphanage subplot which to me was really just 'filler time' because it is traditional almost that Indian movies will be, at times, tediously long. I also found no point to the character of the so called 'Big B' but this could be mostly because I do not have any appreciation for his acting, perhaps because he's not from 'my time'.All in all, I would say that for a sad story about love and life, Kyun Ho Gaya Na is worth reading the subtitles for.
View MoreIf you're expecting an epic like Devdas, well, this movie will disappoint you. But if you're just looking for a nice romantic comedy to pass the time, then this movie will do just that. It's delightful and charming, and will pull on your heartstrings at the right times too. Aishwarya Rai is stunningly beautiful as usual and she gives her character, Diya the right amount of vulnerability. Vivek Oberoi is endearing throughout the whole film. The strongest part of the film is the beginning, in my opinion. It progresses the fastest and most of the comedy is found there. I found the second half of the movie to be a bit slower. But don't worry, it's not slow enough to make your interest wane. Also, as a bonus, Amitabh Bachchan makes his appearance in the second half. Although the second half slows down a bit like I mentioned, it does lead up very well to the ending. I don't understand some of the comments made that Vivek and Aishwarya have no chemistry because I thought they had it in spades. Where this film succeeds is through the characters. The movie makes you care for them, and when they're happy, you're happy, and when they're sad, you're heartbroken for them. I highly recommend this film.
View MoreI don't understand what all the hate was about this film. It was as hated by the general public in India as Gigli was hated here in the US. I think that's sad for everyone who felt that way because I truly loved and enjoyed the film. You cannot judge the merit of a film by the current celebrity gossip status of the actors in it, and I think that's what most people did with this and Gigli. Get over yourselves! Kyun..Ho Gaya Na, is a beautiful film about a boy who does not believe in love, and the girl who comes along and unwittingly debunks his philosophy. Aishwarya Rai plays Diya, a beautiful college girl from the country side who comes to Mumbai to study for an upcoming statewide exam. While there, she becomes the guest at the house of our philosopher Arjun (played by Vivek Oberoi), and quickly finds herself falling in love with him. But Arjun, ever the joker, never runs out of pranks to play on Diya and eventually plays the ultimate prank on her that sets her on fire, in the heat of all of this she admits that she loves him and immediately his attitude changes towards her. Stunned, Frightened and ultimately disappointed by his reaction to her, she runs from Mumbai before sunrise the next day. Arjun awakes to find that she is gone and pursues her, only to meet up with her again and continue with an edited version of pranks he'd earlier played on her. He is threatened when an old flame (Played by Suniel Shetty) returns to town and Diya begins to show him affection. Will Arjun finally realise that he loves Diya before it's too late? Kyun...Ho Gaya Na! Amitabh Bachchan, Om Puri, Suniel Shetty and Diya Mirza all add pure delight to the film as its wonderful supporting cast.
View MoreThe best movie I've ever seen.It was so much over my expectations. Only people of art could appreciate it, only people who love beauty and have eyes to see it. It's not for shallow people. Every scene is perfectly considered. Don't hesitate more, just see it. The music provokes a magic feeling inside, the landscapes. And still Indian traditions are kept. We're all so sick of the same American movies again and again. They're all like the previous and the next. But this one, this is something different. It really made me love the movie art of different countries and it's worthy. This is a professional work that deserves to be appreciated.
