The movie turns out to be a little better than the average. Starting from a romantic formula often seen in the cinema, it ends in the most predictable (and somewhat bland) way.
View MoreThe film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.
View MoreGreat example of an old-fashioned, pure-at-heart escapist event movie that doesn't pretend to be anything that it's not and has boat loads of fun being its own ludicrous self.
View MoreOne of the film's great tricks is that, for a time, you think it will go down a rabbit hole of unrealistic glorification.
View MoreThe director - Thomas Vincent - had already made a film with Clovis Cornillac in 2008 - LE NOUVEAU PROTOCOLE, that I commented, about nasty politics, a very good feature. Here again the two worked together and this is a rather good product. I don't know many things about mercenaries and politics in Congo in the 60's. So far, I don't know if everything here is absolutely true. But it sounds so. Africa and its rotten politicians, so barbarians, cruel, fierce who may give you the need to puke. If you are not racist, you may become, if you stick to the picture given of these men. But, of course, if you are smart enough...I speak only of the leaders.A nasty tale, here again. Cheat, treason, killings, coups, threats of all kinds, broken agreements. Yes, it stinks, but I guess it was made in that purpose. Clovis Cornillac is convincing in the leading character: the most known french mercenary of all time.
