A story that's too fascinating to pass by...

After playing with our expectations, this turns out to be a very different sort of film.

The movie really just wants to entertain people.

Oscar night. Who will win? Who will lose? And will someone please kick that numbskull off stage? Wait! That's no ordinary numbskull. That's Lieutenant Frank Drebin, crashing the ceremonies to stop a terrorist plot that could mean curtains for him, or will a simple window shade be enough? If you loved the first 2 installments there's no way that you won't love Part 3 as well it's just insane and the film literally starts with a spoof from a famous scene from 'The Untouchables' but also has the famous facepalm scene as well as Anna Nicole Smith i mean what else could a fan of this series or a casual viewer in general ask from this movies? They have it all: jokes, beautiful women and Nielsen!!

Like all great empires of history, they end. Some wither and die away, and some come to an inglorious end. The latter is thus what describes The Final Insult. After seeing what is arguably the zenith of Frank Drebin's adventures in the first two Naked Gun films (and being pleasantly surprised at the punches The Smell of Fear was able to deliver after its predecessor), I was a bit dubious. "How could the last movie in the trilogy measure up?" I thought to myself. Turns out it didn't, so my vindication is bittersweet. It's not just that some of the jokes don't age, it's that they're outright recycled (calling it an 'homage' is far too generous), not just from previous Naked Gun/Police Squad releases, but from Airplane! as well. There are a few positives to this film. The working woman/stay-at-home husband is a very nice inverse of traditional gender norms (even while the romance itself is a not uncommon Hollywood May-December romance); there are also a few effective zingers, and I appreciate the hidden meaning behind the title. However, best to skip this movie unless you're dedicated to seeing the disappointing finale of what is otherwise a great series.

After many years serving in Police Squad, and numerous criminals gunned down, Frank Drebin has retired but still dreams of fighting crime. When Police Squad learn that incarcerated terrorist Rocco Dillon is planning another outrage; to discover his target they ask Frank to return for one last case… much to the annoyance of his wife Jane. Frank goes to prison undercover and is put in Rocco's cell; he isn't there for long though as shortly after befriending Rocco the pair break out. Once out they are picked up by Rocco's mother then meet up with his voluptuous girlfriend Tanya. It emerges that Rocco is planning to bomb the Oscar ceremony with a device planted in one of the winners envelopes… if Frank is to stop him he will have to get up on stage and retrieve the envelope… hopefully nobody will notice! As one would expect this film is full of laughs from start to finish. It opens with a very funny spoof of a famous scene from 'The Untouchables', itself a reference to the 'Odessa Steps' scene in 'Battleship Potemkin. Plenty more films are spoofed/referenced throughout the film; most notably 'White Heat', 'The Great Escape' and 'Thelma and Louise'… these are fun extras for those who get the references but it doesn't matter if one doesn't realise another film is being referenced as they are funny in their own right. The humour is of course very forced but that doesn't matter… it is trying to be silly fun and succeeds. Leslie Nielsen is great as Drebin; managing to act straight even when his character is being utterly ridiculous. Some of the supporting cast are a bit ropy but that doesn't matter as they provide some extra accidental laughs. The humour is fairly slapstick and for the most part inoffensive; there are some gags that make the film unsuitable for younger viewers… unless parents feel comfortable explaining the joke about Frank giving numerous 'samples' at a fertility clinic! Overall a funny conclusion to this hilarious trilogy.

Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult is a hilarious movie with a decent storyline and yet again another brilliant and comedic performance from Leslie Nielsen as Frank Drebin. Its definitely not as good as the outstanding first Naked Gun,one of the funniest comedies ever made in my opinion, but I thought it was an improvement from the first Naked Gun,I thought there was a lot more hilarious scenes in this one and I really enjoyed the scenes at the Academy Awards towards the end of the movie. Some people may disagree, but I think this Naked Gun is an improvement over the second one and fans of the first won't enjoy it as much, but they will laugh a lot.Frank Drebin (Leslie Nielsen) must convince a gang that he is also a criminal in order to stop a bomb from being set off at the Academy Awards.
