An Exercise In Nonsense
It’s an especially fun movie from a director and cast who are clearly having a good time allowing themselves to let loose.
View MoreThe film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.
View MoreYes, absolutely, there is fun to be had, as well as many, many things to go boom, all amid an atmospheric urban jungle.
View More...and I say present tense "enjoy"(rather than past), due to it being a movie that I actually enjoy in repeated viewings!I think this movie so way far out shines it's original 1988 version (tho, I do love Amelia Kinkaide as Angela in the original, as well as her in its two sequels)..I know especially in this latest era's horror remakes there are so many that absolutely despise them, and find them to be outright sinful, for daring to even have been made..lol. And while there are definitely a long list of pathetic remakes that just pale in comparison to their originals..this however, IMO, is not one of those, but rather its a fun horror flick that is set against the best holiday made for horror film backdrops, Halloween!Off the top of my head the only other horror film remake that I enjoy as much as this one is 2007's remake of "The Hitcher".. I'm certain I'm likely to be in the minority as well in my liking "The Hitcher's" remake over the original.Oh well, to each his own.
View MoreI haven't watched the original NIGHT OF THE DEMONS yet so I can't comment on this film's status as a remake, but what I can say is that it's a pretty poor and entirely ordinary horror movie. The storyline is a predictable one, with guests at a party finding themselves possessed one by one by demons, so that means the execution is going to have to be pretty spectacular for this film to be a success.Well, it isn't. The directorial style is a disappointment, the film made in such a way that it already feels more dated than many an '80s production. Half the running time seems to be made up of bimbo characters running around in next to nothing, and the other half sees characters in cheesy demon masks attempting to menace the viewer. There isn't as much gore as you'll expect, and virtually nothing to remember the film by.I admit that I got a kick out of seeing Edward Furlong in this movie. He's clearly a guy who's suffered hardship in real life, but I found his performance a surprisingly sensitive one. He's the best thing in it. Bobbi Sue Luther and Shannon Elizabeth are entirely convincing as the bimbo characters although I'm not sure whether that's really a compliment. Linnea Quigley's cameo is just wrong although the actress playing the main girl (sorry, not sure of her name) isn't too bad. Still, NIGHT OF THE DEMONS is a bland remake, nothing more.
View MoreI really liked this movie. It's a remake of a "classic" movie from '88. I saw this one first and everything for me worked. Cheesy horror premise; check. Half naked babes; check. Demons a plenty; check check. And now that I have watched the original I think this version is far superior in both acting and script. Not gonna spoil anything major but the premise is the same, teenagers in a haunted house getting possessed by sneaky demons is the main thing . This movie is far superior both in dialog and the script departments. The 2009 version has some twists and spooky moments, the old one just had soap opera wannabe dialog and the whole story followed in that line. I think that the two versions are really different all and all and you should check both of them out. I'm also a sucker for Shannon Elizabeth so it's an 8 from me. I think I have seen the majority of both a and b horror stuff from 2009 and I really thought this was a good one and in no way is this worth a 4. It really improves on the original in every way.
View Morei have some tendency to watch movies including demons coz i always imagine some really kool monster thing, but recently (the last 10 years maybe) the people in charge don't seem to have creative or original ideas about what demons should look like. i don't want a demon to look like an incestuous hillbilly zombie or some extra pale goth chick with pointy teeth... however, this movie has another problem: nothing that hasn't been seen several hundred times before. special effects, acting, characters, gore, all below average. the only thing i enjoyed was the lead actress from the chin down. and the lipstick quote was quite funny. in some thread somebody talked about edward furlong looking like a chubby, flat-chested woman with short hair, that had me laughing for about 10 minutes. thats about it.
