Disturbing yet enthralling
The film may be flawed, but its message is not.
It is encouraging that the film ends so strongly.Otherwise, it wouldn't have been a particularly memorable film

View MoreI grew up in the San Fernando Valley back in the 60's and was drawn to Van Nuys Airport like a magnet. I hung out at Skyways, the Cessna dealer, on Roscoe. I roamed the entire perimeter of the field searching for fascinating aircraft. I watched plane after plane land. For me Van Nuys offered a freedom of spirit. I always wanted to become a pilot but poor eyesight in the sixth grade put an end to that dream. But my father was in the airline business and I had the fortunate opportunity to travel the globe in scores of great planes. When I came upon "One Six Right" it took me back to my days of flight dreams. Up in the clouds. Captain of my own airship. I even went through start up procedures for a DC-3 in my bed late at night. I read everything I could find about planes and flying. I have yet to find a visual presentation that even comes close to reaching my inner soul of flight. "One Six Right" struck it like a harpoon. Hats off to Mr. T and his crew for a stupendous narrative that flows forth on so many levels. "One Six Right" should be on the must view list of every film student on the planet. And the music. Mr. Wang has been up in the clouds of heaven before. It is a "Dead On" theme that starts the tears welling in your eyes. They are true tears of joy, remembrance and hope that someday everyone can join the treasured few up above "One Six Right".
View MoreThe cinematography, the music, and the content are truly brilliant. Having spent more than 20 years in - and retiring from - the Tower pictured in the opening sequence, I can tell you that Brian captured the true essence of his subject - Van Nuys Airport. Consistently one of the busiest airports in the nation VNY is quite often overlooked but by any standards is a true asset to the industry. Brian too, becomes a asset to all GA lovers with his remarkable rendition of life on the ground and in the sky over Southern California. This is a pioneering effort in the making of High-Definition films - flawless. The colors are spectacular and the extra features on the DVD show how the original music was composed. A must see even if you're not an 'airplane fan'.
View MoreAs a longtime pilot and aviation enthusiast, I was awestruck by "One Six Right" the first time I saw it. It is a magnificent tribute to general aviation. Brian Terwilliger is an outstanding filmmaker! He clearly has an enormous passion for aviation. I've never seen such beautiful aerial photography in my life and the editing of current and historic footage was perfectly done. The thing that really set off the visuals was the story of Van Nuys airport. For all general aviation pilots, we recognize the history of Van Nuys as the history of our local airports. The wonderful thing about general aviation is that this story is really the story of all small airports - the joy pilots feel about "kicking the tires and lighting the fires" and the struggles the airport endures as urban sprawl encroaches ("nobody ever built an airport in the middle of a housing development"). Thanks for truly superb movie with all the dimensions of modern general aviation. Please re-release it on BluRay as soon as possible.
View MoreI have now been flying for 44 years; I was the kid sitting at the local flying field, trolling for rides when I was young. That love of flight has always been part of my being, but something that was very difficult to tell others exactly how I felt when I went aloft. From the classic Cub to the heavy iron of sophisticated airplanes, the thrill of flight is always there. One of my favorite airliners was always the DC-3, its sleek lines always beckoned me to the cockpit. Today, I revel in the scents of an airplane exhaust and the freshly-mown grass fields where airplanes truly belong. NOW, I can show this video to others and they can feel the love of flight, something that pilots everywhere can share. Thanks for making this video; we need more like this one.
