Let me be very fair here, this is not the best movie in my opinion. But, this movie is fun, it has purpose and is very enjoyable to watch.

An old-fashioned movie made with new-fashioned finesse.

Piranha (1978) is a great movie. But this is better. 3.5 is underrating it. This is one of the scariest horror movies of all time. This movie has a great story line. It also has great acting. It also has great special effects. If this movie does not scary you then no movie will. I give 10 out of 10 because it is a great movie. The Jaws movie are better. Anaconda is also better. But still this a great movie. I think reason people do not like movie is because it is a sequel. Godzilla (1998) is better. Still this is a great film. This is the best Piranha movie. The original Piranha is a great movie. This is better. James Cameron is a great film maker. This is better then Terminator. The only Jame Cameron movie I have seen that is better then this one is Aliens. And have seen Terminator 2 and all of his big movies.

A scuba diving instructor, her biochemist boyfriend, and her police chief ex-husband try to link a series of bizarre deaths to a mutant strain of piranha fish whose lair is a sunken freighter ship off a Caribbean island resort. This is just classic Italian-American horror sequel-making at its finest. We have a round table of directors, with James Cameron getting stuck with his name on the picture. This brings the film more attention in retrospect as Cameron has become huge. But the truth is that the "real" director, after Cameron was forced off, was really the producer.I don't care how cheesy the fish effects are. I thought this was classic 1980s horror and I loved it. The silliness, the cliché plot and obvious death scenes. And Lance Henriksen before he really took off? This is must-see.

This movie takes place near a small resort island in the Caribbean. Essentially, "Annie Kimbrough" (Tricia O'Neil) is a scuba instructor for the luxury hotel on the island and has been recently divorced from her husband "Chris Kimbrough" (Lance Henriksen) who happens to be the local sheriff. One day while teaching some tourists how to scuba dive one of the trainees is killed by some kind of fish that Annie is unable to identify due to the bite marks on the body which doesn't resemble any fish that she is familiar with. Neither does she realize just how dangerous these fish truly are. At any rate, rather than disclose the rest of the plot and risk spoiling the film for those who haven't seen it, I will just say that I enjoyed it. Now, make no mistake it clearly wasn't up to the level of "Jaws" or possibly even its predecessor "Piranha". But the scenery was nice and a couple of the actors, most notably the aforementioned Tricia O'Neil and Lance Henriksen, played their parts rather well. Along with that there were a couple of attractive ladies wearing either nothing or next to nothing in several different scenes. And while some of the scenes featuring the flying piranha were clearly absurd, whether intended or not, I found it to be quite hilarious. Now, that is not to say that I thought this was a movie that was "so bad it's good". Not at all. I just thought it was a fun movie and I enjoyed watching it. Obviously, there will be some who strongly disagree and I respect their opinion. Be that as it may, even though it certainly has its flaws I rate this movie as average.

As a fan of the original Roger Corman classic, Piranha i just had to check this one out.the names of Lance Henriksen and director James Cameron (terminator, Aliens, the abyss) attracted me to the title. it cost me a pretty penny as the DVD is hard to find in Canada, but i got it nevertheless and was entertained for an hour and a half. while not of the humorous caliber of the original, i still enjoyed the campy quality of it. the film appears to have many flaws with acting, plot, direction and obviously budget, but if you enjoy a mind numbing, silly good time with cheesy effects, and a healthy amount of nudity you won't be disappointed with Piranha 2: the spawning.
