Waging his one-man war on the world of organized crime, ruthless vigilante-hero Frank Castle sets his sights on overeager mob boss Billy Russoti. After Russoti is left horribly disfigured by Castle, he sets out for vengeance under his new alias: Jigsaw. I wanted to like it more than I actually did... But much of the humor totally escaped me and I walked out only mildly impressed.

The biggest problem with this movie is it’s a little better than you think it might be, which somehow makes it worse. As in, it takes itself a bit too seriously, which makes most of the movie feel kind of dull.

The movie's not perfect, but it sticks the landing of its message. It was engaging - thrilling at times - and I personally thought it was a great time.

I could tell exactly what I was getting myself into once I saw the opening segment where the Punisher breaks into a mafia mansion during a feast where he nonchalantly snaps some poor lady's neck after decapitating an old dying man. Keep in mind that old man was probably a terrible human being but that lady was likely his innocent daughter or even wife who was just there due to family ties. Punisher then climbs onto the ceiling fan and twirls around 360 degrees while simultaneously firing in all directions singlehandedly murdering everyone in the mansion. It's absolutely inspiring and awe inducing. It gets even more ridiculous when the Punisher accidentally kills an undercover cop and undergoes severe guilt and trauma, so to make amends he begins to stalk the grieving family of the cop he murdered. Not only is the Punisher even more of a deranged lunatic than he usually is in other forms of media but hes also quite possibly superhuman in this rendition, he has an insane amount of stamina and is capable of punching straight through a man's head, also capable of fixing his broken nose by shoving pencil up his nostrils. It is unquestionably brilliant, this is a gem of a film that flew far under everyone's radar and it's a damn shame that not enough people saw it.The acting is atrocious but its so inadvertently bad that it reaches a level of hilarity to the point where I can't even tell if this is supposed to be an actual film and not just some sick comedy about a physics defying lunatic that runs around slaughtering folks for fun. Especially when referring to the performances of Dominic West who plays Jigsaw, and Doug Hutchinson who plays Loony Bin Jim, both deliver two outstanding breathtakingly beautiful performances for two of the greatest antagonists to ever grace cinema. Their performances are so noteworthy that the two deserve their own section dedicated to them and only them. Watch the film and you will understand why. As far as actual film direction, this film is horribly shot. There's that one infamous scene where Woolie from TBPF gets shot out of the sky mid stunt by a CGI rocket and I think that one scene speaks for itself. There are actually a few decent aspects of this film that aren't due to The fight scene towards the end is genuinely enjoyable though. It's goofy as hell with Frank Castle mowing down hordes of baddies in a surprisingly entertaining fight sequence where he moves up apartment stories. There's an unexpected attention to detail that can be appreciated with Frank constantly weary of his ammo supply seen consistently reloading his rifles, its a neat detail that is often glossed over by many blockbusters and even films that are far superior to this one. Not a masterpiece by any means but its a fun fight scene with notable details to appreciate. Jigsaw's design is also pretty good even without his amazing dialogue the design stands on its own as good.Just watch it. It's amazing 10/10

It's really rather bad. The Punisher 1989 was a B-Movie that pulled it off. The Punisher 2004 was a high budget movie that came close. The Punisher: War Zone is just awful.I credit the villains. Jigsaw and Loony Bin dominate the movie, they are the real stars and they are little more than cartoon villains in a bloody action movie. They are caricatures that would fit in better with the world of Dick Tracy than with the world of the Punisher. The sad part is the Villains make the movie, Peter Pan would be nothing without Captain hook. Heroes need something ominous and threatening to pit themselves against. The worse the villain the better the hero. The Punisher is up against two cartoon characters. Tom and Jerry on steroids. It kills the entire film. It makes it unwatchable. Over the top but not in a good Heath Ledger the Joker sort of way. No, they were over the top in a makes you want to walk out of a movie sort of way. It's just bad, comically bad and not in the good Evil Dead way.Stay away, stay far away.

Guys,in my opinion, that is the best movie ever done about the punisher. The people complaint about "way too much violence" and "strong language" but they don't see that this is the essence of the character. We all know that the bests histories of the punisher is that ones when he kills, torture and brutalized everyone. The director and the writer did a rare and exclusive thing:They bring all the violence and the good points of the comics to the movie. The actor Ray Stevenson(different of the 2004 actor's)Really looks like frank castle;Dominic West did a great job Whit Jigsaw,as Doug Hutchson did with "Loony Bin Jin" Resuming,i think that this is the best movie, because it really bring the comics universe to the movies.

Even more than 6 years after it's release I really don't understand why people think this movie is bad. Maybe they expected something in the steps of the first movie (the Thomas Jane one, no the Dolph Lundgren one) but given that was an origin story, it's no strange that the sequel seems a bit more basic and generic to a lot of movie goers. But you gotta understand, this is a Punisher movie. To be exact a Punisher movie closer to the MAX line of comics, where the character often is shown as a merciless meat grinder who more often than not kills criminals even for the pettiest of crimes. So it's no surprise that the violence is extremely high and over the top, the character more serious and emotionless and the story more grounded and generic especially when compared with other Marvel comic adaptations like the Avengers or Spiderman. For good or bad this is the MAX version of the Punisher and to be honest after reading quite a few issues of this line of comics, I feel that the movie version of the character is up to par and maybe even better than the one shown in the books, thanks to a large part to Ray Stevenson's performance who is amazing as the Punisher. Is the movie flawless? Of course not, in the end of the day is a low budget action movie about a vigilante killing criminals in gruesome ways. Still, the action is decent and well directed, the acting for the most part is good (except maybe the character of Loony Bin Jim), there are a few decent lines and it never drags out or stalls.Must see for fans of the character (especially the MAX comics version) and for fans of classic action films like the ones we used to see in the 80s and 90s.
