Please don't spend money on this.
As somebody who had not heard any of this before, it became a curious phenomenon to sit and watch a film and slowly have the realities begin to click into place.
View MoreThe movie turns out to be a little better than the average. Starting from a romantic formula often seen in the cinema, it ends in the most predictable (and somewhat bland) way.
View MoreThrough painfully honest and emotional moments, the movie becomes irresistibly relatable
View MoreI just watched this great movie, and really cannot understand the 4.7 rating. Please do not take any of the bad reviews serious. The people who wrote these reviews probably have a problem swallowing good quality food also, because they are used to junk food. This original and exciting sci-fi action-thriller should at least have a rating of 7, so i gave it a 10. The movie portrays a scary future, where dark forces take partial control of human beings minds by means of chip implants. A future, that actually might not be that far away from us. Apart from being very entertaining and full of suspense, keeping my attention all of the time, this movie has an important message to all of us. It shows the horrible reality of a world where evil people that are driven by greed, take control of our minds. The theme is nicely worked out. The acting might not be top-notch, but overall, it is good enough. Cuba Gooding Jr. performs alright, but Val Kilmer is rather disappointing and unconvincing. Luckily, his role is very limited. The camera work, and visual effects are nice and the script is OK. Certainly a movie not to miss!
View MoreSTAR RATING: ***** Saturday Night **** Friday Night *** Friday Morning ** Sunday Night * Monday Morning If asked to think of a promising Hollywood talent who has squandered his potential away over the years, without to any knowledge succombing to any drink and drugs lifestyle, it's hard to think of a better example than Cuba Gooding Jr. You usually get 'one hit wonders' with singers, but in his case he had his golden 'show me the money' moment with Jerry Maguire, then spent the following years melting away with Godawful rubbish like Boat Trip and Daddy Day Camp, as if on some mission to wreck his career taking meaningless roles in inferior material. It's carried on, and now we have this rather appalling straight to DVD disaster in which he gives one of his worst performances ever as 'Luke', a former soldier who loses his memory in a car crash where his wife is killed. In a world where the corporations own everything, he finds himself suffering hallucinations in the form of nauseating, tacky commercials for everything from watches to whisky. Some resistance fighters may hold the answers, tracing them as the responsibility of Hope Industries, and as he gets his memory back, it becomes more of a desire for revenge...There isn't a redeeming quality in sight here. The acting from all involved is laughable, from Cuba to a bloated looking, unkempt, bespectacled Val Kilmer as the villain, years of reportedly being an arse to work with on Hollywood film sets relegating him to far lesser stuff like this. And that's without mentioning the effects, especially the 'exploding heads' moments, which look cheaper and faker than if they'd been filmed thirty years ago. Seriously one to avoid. *
View MoreOkay, yes. You've seen the material a thousand times from Freejack to Johnny Mneumonic to Total Recall to Matrix. This echoes both John Carpenter's, "They Live," and the more-recent "Gamer," with some of the feel of the original "Blade," attempted, but never achieved. The action is awesome, well choreographed, and professionally executed throughout a Terminator-stylized storyline including the end of the world as we know it via robotics and a mad scientist portrayed disappointingly by Val Kilmer.Mad scientists should be either raving mad, or insidiously fiendish. Kilmer's Virgil was full of high ideas with no moral center, but he utterly lacked the diabolism required to carry through such a plan. It was like he knew from the beginning that he was doomed to fail, and played the character thusly, failing to invest too much of himself in a doomed role. I wanted him to be Madmartigan vs. the kid from Real Genius, and instead, I got Craig Ferguson's Dr. Wagner of Lenny the Wonder Dog. To say the least, I was disappointed.Decent on a rainy afternoon if there's nothing left in the house to clean. Otherwise, you could find something better to do with your time.It rates a 5.5/10 from...the Fiend :.
View MoreI'd like to justify myself first; I went to Blockbuster to get The Hurt Locker, but it was out, and I saw Hardwired sitting on a full shelf. I'd read the reviews here on IMDb and I thought I may as well rent a cheap flick. When it was over, I thought Hardwired was getting a bad rap.First, the story is pretty decent. It's not unheard of, but it kept me entertained. Second, the acting isn't as bad as others say it is. Third, it could have been a comedy. The Story- Joshua (Cuba Gooding, Jr.) is subjected to a horrible experiment by an unsympathetic Government which is run by corporations. It's not foreign, but it's an interesting plot. The script isn't great, but it kept me interested. The Acting- Cuba Gooding, Jr. has been getting nasty reviews for his acting, which is without doubt a far cry from his performances in Jerry Macguire and Shadowboxer. But when compared to the mess that was Wrong Turn at Tahoe, it wasn't bad.The Comedy- The beginning credits had me almost rolling on the floor with laughter, at the futuristic product placement. Hilarious. So, Hardwired won't be winning any Oscars, and it sure won't be a highlight of Cuba or Val's careers. But was it worth a laugh, maybe at the expense of their dignity? Yes.
