RipDelight

This is a tender, generous movie that likes its characters and presents them as real people, full of flaws and strengths.

Waste of time. Waste of money. Avoid watching. Watch if you want to go crazy. Worst movie of recent times This movie should be first shown in TV rather than wasting peoples time going to cinema halls! When director has no other work they make movies like these.. So just stay at home n if you really want to see some dirty scenes then wait for the pirated version of the movie. Cause there is nothing worth to go n watch movie in theater.

The film seemed to give the impression of the ingredients to success, and an Indian film about World War Two itself sounds so unique and unheard of that one ends up pinning high hopes on it, but the plot and the story-line falls well below the capable mind and the intelligence of Vishal. The performances were pretty good, no two ways about it, especially of Shahid who looked so handsome and appealing as soldier with that mustache and the physique, and Saif was good (nothing extraordinary as Shahid since he got a very limited role) in his kind of territory of roles, Kangana... Well, she wasn't bad but I'm in general not a huge fan of her acting skills, in particular that shaky voice. But again, the plot fails the film.Although I've my reservations about the subcontinent's soldiers that fought for either sides in that war, but I can understand the admiration and the sense of patriotism attached with those who allied with Germany and Japan back then. This however seemed like a film that Vishal made on kind of force. He's not that kind of a man, his films never revolve around the emotions of nationalism. It seems so coincidental that director Kabir Khan makes a film ('Bajrangi Bhaijaan' 2015) which shows Pakistan in good light, then proceeds to go all patriotic and anti-Pakistan in a film like 'Phantom' (2015), and Vishal makes a film ('Haider' 2014) in which he takes a critical look in the happenings with the people of Kashmir, and then goes all patriotic in a film like this. Strange really! It can happen, we all can have a bad day at the office, but here's hoping that Vishal gets back to his usual best and continues to make the tragedies I so love with passion.Either way, Vishal deserves a tremendous amount of credit for unearthing the actor within Shahid. This man on his own has given Shahid a direction, a type of roles that he now knows that he can pull off. It's down to Vishal that Shahid's performances are now valued in the eyes of the public. Prior to that, Shahid was at best a poor's man Shah Rukh Khan - or at least trying to be!

Wish characters could write their own ends. Wish the actors playing them could rescue them from this helplessness. A fiery little 'banjaaran' is bought off a street performance by a visionary businessman. He then tames this 'wildness' into a feisty and fashionable Miss Julia. But for obvious reasons, he is unable to tame her heart, which is still lost in the wilderness it had come from. Rangoon the movie, promises from the very beginning, to be made to appreciate Kangana, the 'queen'. It is she, in a welcome change, who gets a royal 'introduction' into the story and she accepts it with aplomb. Because here is a performance which overshadows everything, the other performances, the confusing storyline, the gigantic sets, the excellent cinematography and of course, the soulful music. Because, when Miss Julia enters, you look at only her and when she exits, you wait, only for her. Cheers to both the male leads, a painfully restrained Shahid Kapoor and an equally, if not more controlled Saif Ali Khan, who gracefully accept the reign of the 'queen' over the entire film. The brilliant actors that they are, they have shown bravery in accepting itself, the roles of characters who are nothing but providers of plot points to a scattered story to which the heroine acts and reacts. So it is a welcome change indeed to see the heroine ride into the den of enemies and save her prince charming, the heroine to make the first move in her own love story and the heroine again to playfully defeat an exceptional soldier in swording. If only the climax too could keep the queen's flag flying high. Good songs, poetic visuals and excellent dialogues. We only wish the script had focused on one story in completion instead of getting scattered into so many snippets of different ideologies. Rangoon should be watched, for all these positives and of course, for the queen on screen, Kangana Ranaut.
