Private racing is an expensive hobby for millionaires with money to burn. Amongst them rapper Infamous (Eddie Griffin), illegal arms dealer Michael (Angus Macfadyen) and Hollywood producer Jerry Brecken (Tim Matheson). Given the suitcases of money involved they need the best drivers to indulge into their pass-time. Amongst them is playboy Jason (Jesse Johnson), who works for his uncle Michael. His brother and an Iraq war vet Carlo (Nathan Phillips) is vehemently opposed to Jason being involved with such a ruthless criminal, but despite that backs him in his racing endeavours. Meanwhile a fortnight before a big race Infamous loses his best driver, who is busted by cops during an illegal daytime street race (stupido!). Devoid of options he tries to hire the leg-flashing cleavage-loving Natasha (Nadia Bjorlin), an aspiring musician, car workshop owner and at the same time the daughter of former racer extraordinaire. Natasha declines given how her father lost his life on the race track. And so...It is sometimes extremely hard to actually comment a movie of this type. I knew nothing about the movie beforehand, so after the first few scenes, I was expecting a low-budget racing movie with B-class acting and script. It turns out I wasn't exactly wrong, apart from the glaring fact that the money put into this movie was anything but 'low'. "Redline" can be easily described by one word: excess. An excess of everything possible. Leggy barely-dressed bum-shaking (and apparently promiscuous) girls (short skirts, lingerie and ultra short shorts are a must). Flashy expensive cars. Reckless driving and endangerment of life for a whim. Bags of money. Chic clothes. Alcohol. Barrages of music (mostly hip-hop). Testeterone driven fights. As well as cheap one-liners, cardboard characterisations, barely logical script and amateurish acting. If all you need is legs and backsides galore, motors revving and people splashing the cash feel free to indulge. Apart from the decent performances by the trio of richie riches there is nothing real worth to note in this picture. Even more so that the editing behind some of the race scenes make your eyes sore and are hard to follow. Instead of some emotionally driven races we have a lot of cool guys spectacularly crashing cars worth millions of dollars...I can't say how happy I am that the producer of this movie got hit hard by the flop. The amount of money burned on this craptastic flick is embarrassing.

Now I am a big revhead. I always have been, and I love a good car movie. Especially racing movies but The Fast and the Furious series didn't really satisfy me. I'm not for a moment going to suggest that Redline is better than FnF because it's not. But I personally was never into the whole Import scene. My favourite car of the entire movie was the 69 Charger. What's more a week after that film came out, every teenager with a FWD Honda or Mitsubushi blew their entire bank accounts on trying to make their cars look better and failed, dismally.I enjoyed watching Redline because it reminds me of the Need for Speed video game series. NFS was all about driving the finest driving machines on the planet to the very limit of speed (on the track and off) but the Underground came along with the whole 'Urban exotic' idea and let all of the Supercar fans down.I think this film could've been the film adaption of Need for Speed and been a lot more successful. But since that isn't the case I'll simply conclude with this. This is not a film for serious film buffs. This one is for the revheads (or gearheads or petrol heads or whatever they call them in the country that you're reading this) who just want something to watch of a Saturday night. It's just something you can sit back and switch your brain off to with some explosions, fistfights, no real story and some of the finest cars of today raced (and crashed) then Redline is an alright choice.

I HAVE EVER SEEN! Please, PLEASE, do NOT watch this movie. It was so bad i caught myself with my mouth wide open from the TERRIBLE plot, actors, everything! I watched maybe 15 minutes of the movie (which i regret dearly) and i couldn't take it anymore. I already knew it was going to suck story-wise, but the plot is SO unorganized and SO BAD it literally made my head hurt IM NOT KIDDING. Let me just tell you how bad it is: so right when the movie starts this guy bets a kid that if he can deliver his drugs from los angles (i think) to las vegas within 1 hour n 45 mins he will give him a million dollars so the kid jumps in the car and puts on NIGHT VISION so that he can drive secretly, i know i didn't know people could make this crap up.... So like i said, PLEASE do not watch this movie!!!

When Redline was first announced, I was excited. I thought, Fast and the Furious with Supercars. Right? Wrong wrong WRONG! I didn't go see it in the theater, and now, having seen it on Starz/Encore, I am really glad I didn't waste the money or time. The acting was horrible (as one review put it, makes FatF look like the Godfather), the direction was mediocre at best, and the casting could have been much better. The only bright spots were Nadia Bjorlin and Eddie Griffin (I love Eddie, and his over-the-top character in this movie was somewhat funny, especially the scene on the racetrack with Nat in the Ford GT). Small thumbs up to the soundtrack as well. It sounded like the soundtrack to any number of Need for Speed games. The real stars of this film, of course, were the cars. It was a thrill, I'll admit, to see some of my dream cars on film (though I cringed to see them destroy the Carrera GT...such a beautiful car). The race scenes were a little over the top, but I can deal with that. It is, after all, a movie, and I believe it's called suspension of disbelief.Bottom line, if this film had had the following things: Plot, decent script, better acting, and more of a focus on character development...well, it might have been a 5 or 6 out of 10. As it is, I gave it a 1 because that's as low as it goes, and really, the cars themselves made it a 1.Only watch this if A)you like horrible movies, or B)you want to see the incredibly awesome and powerful Supercars in this film.
